They definitely don't generate a better sound than vinyl, the format itself ensures that even if it comes from the direct digital source rather than a medium.
If the vinyl and CD are both sourced from a 16-bit/44.1kHz digital master than perhaps that could very well be the case, but if they're source from 30ips tape which I presume they are, the vinyl will have far greater fidelity than the CD. The Blu-ray release is what makes this worth looking into, but it still is pretty pricy if you already have the three MOFI SACD issues which are fantastic or the 4AD vinyl reissues. I already have Surfer Rosa on CD which I wasn't that interested in anyway (like it for one tune) and the MOFI SACD of Doolittle which I do enjoy a lot. I may round off the ones I want picking up Trompe le Monde on vinyl. If the Blu-ray releases all have multi-channel high resolution mixes on them that aren't gimmicky mixes, that changes the playing field. Last edited by dobyblue; 04-22-2009 at 02:17 PM. |
