The days of having 15 to 20 movies playing in theaters simultaneously has likely come to an end.
Absolutely.

We've already heard this one before, in fact when news that AT&T was gonna purchase WB hit the first rumor spun was "they'll sell off DC Comics" and "you can forget about ever seeing that so-called Snyder Cut".

Didn't your signature say, up until very recently, something like "theaters are dead. I hope everyone is happy"?

If enough people want a thing, someone will provide it. It’s just they don’t want it right now. They will again when all this is over. For now, streaming is better than nothing.

Yes I was mad at first. But thpught and let cooler heads prevail.

I'm just sorry that people want everything hand delivered to them anymore and afraid to go outside. And this is before all this crap ever began.

You were the biggest offender of this and your location still says "Not in the movie theater."

With the irony being it would've made **** all, or barely enough to cover its arse. Ditto for Dune. This bit from the THR article

Surprisingly to some in the industry, sources say the idea was the brainchild of Warner Bros. COO Carolyn Blackwood who, looking at a relatively weak 2021 slate, saw an opportunity to avoid the humiliation of potentially bad grosses while currying favor with streamer-obsessed higher-ups.
speaks to what I said earlier in the thread, that this had a distinct feel of Warners knowing that these incredibly expensive films weren't gonna make a dime in theatrical profits (and would have to spend even more money on them in the form of P&A when the theatrical releases were planned to happen) so dumping them all to streaming is a way to staunch that.

The vast majority of TV/streaming shows and movies fill 16:9 or are close. You can list as many examples as you want, but 16:9 is still far more popular for TV/home presentations. I don't see why some studios wouldn't consider changing the presentation after their movies are no longer exhibited theatrically (which is still a ways away, but we're getting there).
Um...wut? More/less people having 2.39 displays has literally nothing to do with it, moviemakers consider the aspect that they want to best tell their story just like choosing black and white over colour, or film over digital, or anamorphic over spherical lenses: if everything was the same then that'd be boring AF.

The 2.39 aspect isn't going anywhere, if anything it might gain even more traction on the small screen than it already has (though 2:1 is popular too) as people still regard it as a more 'cinematic' ratio than 1.78. It's not about filling the screen.

The media rights are more valuable to warner than comics or games. If they are selling it will be piecemeal. They would keep Batman and dump Booster Gold.

It looks like the decision to stream everything is starting to have some internal blow back and they're already throwing in the legal process.

Quote:
‘Dune’ Producer Legendary Entertainment May Sue Warner Bros. Over HBO Max Deal

Legendary Entertainment, the production company that co-financed “Dune” and “Godzilla vs. Kong,” may take legal action against Warner Bros. over the studio’s decision to send its movies to HBO Max at the same time they debut in cinemas.

Legendary financed a significant portion of “Dune,” which cost roughly $175 million, and “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which carries a price tag around $160 million. Yet the company was largely kept out of the loop that their films would be included in Warner Bros.’ plan to send 17 films — its entire 2021 slate — to the subscription streaming service and any open movie theaters.

Anyone else find it funny that Nolan is such a champion of the cinematic experience, yet always mixes his films audio so poorly that the optimal way to enjoy his movies is at home with subtitles on?

At the end of the day, it’s WB’s decision. Nolan doesn’t own Tenet. He didn’t finance it. All he did was annoy them to not release it digitally. They could’ve easily waited but they chose him to somehow save the industry and it blew up in all there faces.
