Early 2021 looking good already in terms of catalogue releases. I hope WB and Lionsgate announce their plans soon.
Preorder at DD up too at $25.94 for now.

I wonder if Universal can bring this movie to 4K Blu-ray in the UK since I was never expecting this to pop up when I came back to Blu-ray.com.

Guess I'm buying this movie a 4th time. Hopefully Universal doesn't botch this, as they're known to do sometimes.

I'm pretty damn happy with the Criterion BD, so this UHD BD is going to have to really be "uncompromised" (i.e, no digital tinkering that stands out). If it's a BTTF approach, I will pass. If it's like The Big Lebowski or some other really good catalog work of theirs, probably sold.

This is a film that is more than the film itself. Whether UHD is worth it over Criterion really depends on special features which I assume Criterion nailed (they usually do, occasionally don't).

I love this film and for some reason I’ve never owned it on any format so this is a day 1 must buy.

As for 4K this is a film that screams for it, the visual style and color scheme is in a world of its own and HDR should make this one of the formats better upgrades.

Criterion is overrated. They need to wake up and come back to reality. Physical media is without a doubt strictly for collectors. All the boutiques- well the good ones have thrown in and they won’t?

Aside from that, an average Universal release trounces Criterion releases.

According to the back cover art below, the UHD retains most, if not all, of the special features.

For the life of me I cannot understand why someone who is passionate about film and film preservation would *not* want Criterion to go 4K UHD. Sell them in UHD/BD combo packs if you're concerned about adoption, fine. But at this point there's no excuse. I would be over the moon if I could see The Irishman in UHD for example and the title was finished natively in 4K as well. Why downgrade to 1080p?

I just saw Thief for the first time on the Criterion BD. Solid, solid video and audio, very film like. I'd kill for that to be in 4K HDR.

The UHD will definitely be worth it, and they will eat Criterion's lunch in the 4K format now. But does anybody else really like both versions?

I have the original release on bluray, I REALLY want to get the Criterion because I like the packaging, and this is a no brainer.

But can someone tell me is this NOT getting a slipcover lol? What the heck it looks like a normal case release from this.

I will be severely disappointed if this comes with no slip, and then I guess Criterion can have their way with people and release yet another full package 4K release. God only knows if they will recycle packaging or what their plans are. It's about time they seriously made some decisions.

Pertaining to the slipcover, you see it here and there. Some early packaging pictures are just of the case and cover art, but that doesn't mean it won't come with a slip. For example, the very recent Possessor 4K did come with a slipcover despite initial pictures just being the case and cover.

Definitely planning on picking this up, but between the book in Criterion's release and the fact I got it signed by the man himself, I will never part with my Blu!
