Three Indiana Jones project Disney+ should green light (separate and apart from any fifth Indy movie:

- New Young Indiana Jones Live-Action Series (Taking Indy into his mid-twenties and his mentorship with Abner Ravenwood).

- Indiana Jones Animated Series (Set in the late '30s/early '40s - the classic Indy period).

- Short Round Live-Action Series (Set in the late '50s/early '60s, - the adventures of a grown-up Short Round following in Indy's footsteps).

I'd prefer an animated series like this on Disney Plus.

[Show spoiler]Completely different era. Will they recast Indiana Jones eventually? Of course they will. Audiences accepting it is another thing. James Bond switching actors is now an accepted part of the franchise. But Indiana Jones has had 4 movies in almost 40 years. Beyond the opening minutes of “Last Crusade” & the TV series, Harrison Ford has played him. And he’s made it known he LOVES playing him.

People don’t like when you reboot classics. Look at Ghostbusters 2016. Don’t like when you recast them either. Look at Solo.

Millennials are nostalgic like almost no other generation before them. James Mangold is a fine journey man type director, but he’s not exactly the type of filmmaker needed. I’d go with Gore Verbinski. That’s the only director who I can see doing the series justice.

But still...without Spielberg? KOTCS may not be very good but at least it’s got style and some great set pieces. The movie is actually not bad until the moment Mutt & Indy leave for South America. The opening, with the Elvis track & the kids racing the Russians? I loved it. Once they hit Peru though, it’s all downhill. Karen Allen is especially awful. Honestly the nuking fridge thing never bothered me, I thought it was awesome. But Mutt swinging on vines with monkeys?? Come on. The terrible, obvious CGI? The obvious feeling of being in a set during scenes in the jungle?(that quick sand sequence...oh my)

The real tragedy of Indiana Jones 4 is that they had a really, really good script that Frank Darabont wrote. The set pieces are bigger and better, there’s no kid, and Marion still acts like Marion. The opening 20 minutes are fairly similar to the movie we got, but when Indy gets fired, he goes and gets drunk and stumbles into a museum he & Marcus Brody started. In it are a bunch of artefacts(the cross of Coronado, a stone from Temple of Doom, the medallion from Raiders) that Indy drunkenly reminisces about before getting into a great fight with a bad guy whose been following him. That leads him into a bigger mystery about the Crystal Skulls. Same maguffin but executed way better. It’s a shame that version was never made. Spielberg and Harrison loved it. But apparently George Lucas didn’t.

Hello? Without GEORGE LUCAS there wouldn't be any Indiana Jones, so I think he is extremely vital to Indiana Jones.

People.

I think it's a great movie, although the look and some of the VFX are a bit too divergent from the originals' aesthetics.
Was it necessary? No, the trilogy was complete.
Frankly, I don't want any more. Harrsion is too old now.

I'll say it again in this thread...Harrison Ford is 78 years old!!...older then Sean Connery was when he played Indy's father...

Which is probably what the film is going to be about. An aging Indy, and he's probably going to have helpers along his side to do most of the physical stuff. That's why they hired Logan director for.

Mangold is a daddy movie filmmaker. Spielberg is one of the best filmmakers of all time. You can’t compare and it’s an obvious downgrade.

Meh, don't want another poor man's Unforgiven from Mangold. Hope it's more in line with the previous movies of the series, still wish Speilberg directed this.

I prefer them riding off in the sunset at the end of The Last Crusade. Just my opinion, but if they wanted more Indiana Jones movies after that, they should have just rebooted with a new actor. Not sure that would go over well with a lot of people though.

I think the answer for more Indiana Jones would be an animated series. More adventures to keep the character fresh but no need to bring Ford back or recast him.

I'll certainly give Indy 5 a chance, but I have doubts.

Both are great endings. I liked seeing Indy finally find a family and complete his arc. Especially if you watch them in chronological order, which I did earlier this year, based on this very entertaining video. I watched the opening of TLC and then had TOD queued up to seamlessly merge right as the guy puts the fedora on young Indy. Pretty fun.

Doesn't matter. Spielberg already gave everything he had with the franchise, Mangold didn't. Ask yourself, would you rather see Spielberg half ass it, or see a new filmmaker with the hunger to bring new life to it? What people don't seem to realize is often filmmakers leave franchises that made them so famous is because they can't top themselves. You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Same principles applies.
