The only chance of a UHD is if Regency moves to a new studio when their deal at Foxney expires in 2022, and then if UHDs of catalog titles are still being produced then, and by whatever studio they might move to. Those seem like fairly slim odds. |

For instance, in watching Heat last night I note the copyright of the picture reads "Monarchy Enterprises B. V. and Regency Enterprises." (A quick business search at the secretary of state's site didn't turn up a hit for Monarchy.) It sure seems that Warner was simply a distribber for hire on this and other films that I think Regency owns outright. Do we know for sure that the Fox BD reissues of Heat and L.A. Confidential weren't one-offs? In other words, how can we know that Disney's acquisition of Fox entertainment assets has anything to do with films that Fox did not own? It seems to me entirely possible that Arnon might be free to shop the titles in his catalog that he owns outright to a different home vid distribber. Why would he/his legal department agree that just because Fox has been acquired the library of an independent production entity with a term distribution deal can't be released on home vid by someone else? I think Arnon just needs to see the money--if there is any--and/or be passionate about the picture. Last edited by Paul.R.S; 12-19-2020 at 06:49 PM. |

Loved Heat, seems like yesterday I was in the theater seeing it when it first came out, 25 years have flown by. I am looking forward to the prequel/sequel novel Michael Mann has been working on for the past few years, I believe it was supposed to be out this year but delayed until 2021.

One is, sadly, my favorite line in the film: "You sift through the detritus" is removed from Justine's speech to Hanna after he abandons her at the party. The WB and Fox BDs have the same cut of the film, Mann just remastered it for the Fox release and changed the color timing while he was doing that. The WB logo is also removed from the beginning, so that may change the running time by a second or two. |

You can see they're still with WB by checking the "Details" for the streaming at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/JFK-Kevin-Costner/dp/B008Y7R1LM/ https://www.amazon.com/Robin-Hood-Th...dp/B008ROG0FA/ https://www.amazon.com/Devils-Advoca...dp/B001EBYM9Y/ The rest of the Regency catalog from the WB era went along to Fox when the company left WB, and Fox still distributes those titles, again this is listed in the "Details" at Amazon Prime: https://www.amazon.com/L-Confidentia...dp/B001N3OJEG/ https://www.amazon.com/Heat-Michael-Mann/dp/B06XC8WKX1/ https://www.amazon.com/Client-Susan-...dp/B001AIW3FG/ https://www.amazon.com/Copycat-Sigou...dp/B004VFN7BE/ https://www.amazon.com/Time-Kill-Sam...dp/B0091XFMG4/ https://www.amazon.com/Sommersby-Jod...dp/B083PZHPP3/ All of these titles moved over to Fox long before the Disney era. The most recent extension was negotiated in 2011, and ends in 2022: https://deadline.com/2011/01/fox-to-...ru-2022-97400/ If I remember right, that was the deal that brought the catalog over, because LA Confidential was released on BD by WB in 2008 and Heat by WB in 2009, so they still controlled them then. In 2022, you can bet they'll have a new home. Last edited by James Luckard; 12-19-2020 at 07:03 PM. |

The old Blu-ray doesn't feature the original color timing at all, the home video releases have been drastically different from the original prints in terms of overall color temperature.

![]() The new remastered Fox BD doesn't either, Mann specifically said he was timing the film for that BD to be how he would have timed it in 2017, if he were filming it then. The 2009 BD certainly looks closer to how I remember it from multiple 35mm screenings I've seen, but we'd have to compare it to a proper, unfaded 35mm release print to know exactly. I don't think either one reflects the theatrical look 100% perfectly, it's true though. |

The old Blu-ray was given an overall "cool" color temperature, even in daylight scenes that were warm and vibrant on the 35mm prints. Some of those scenes that were warm on 35mm and cool on the old Blu-ray were made warm again on the remastered Blu-ray. That's not saying the remastered disc has the original colors, but in some ways it is more faithful to the original prints than the older Blu-ray. At the end of the day, neither reflect what was shown theatrically in 1995, and claiming any DVD/Blu-ray of Heat has the original color timing is false. |

I was just trying to give a quick, clear answer, without going into minutiae, so I apologize for being reductive in saying that the 2009 disc has the "original" color timing. That said, it has a look that is overall much closer to the original film, in my opinion. It's also the video transfer that has been around for many years, on DVD as well, so it's how the film has looked for quite a long time. |

You have all the seen the original though haven't you?
By the same director: L. A. Takedown. If my memory serves me correctly, this has a different ending. |
