I’m not sure if it’s fixed. This is the second Blu Ray they sent and I was interested in the 4K being repaired.

I think I have a previous blu Ray version of Psycho. Actually I think I have it on 5 Blu Rays Now because it was in two other box sets.

This time tho it came in a perfect 2 disc 4K case. I take that as my Christmas gift.
Dumb. This year made me realize just how not fun physical is.

Steelbook dents. Slipcover dings. Shipping delays. Replacement discs. Scratches. Freezing etc

the way I justify it is

worst case scenario: I and only I watched the film once and it sucked. It is still a less expensive proposition then going by myself to the theatre and does not compare financially to my time.

If we all sit down as a family to watch the cost of the purchase becomes negligible.

If friends and family decide to borrow and watch it it pays back even more.
I never borrow my discs out. It’s a quirk I have and people understand.

Yeah, the 3D was very decent.

In the US we have Netflix disc by mail so there is little need for us to blind buy. We pay a fixed amount per month for this service. For a period of > 14 years our average per title ≈ $2.00 per movie delivered to our mail box. Most titles are on Blu-ray, very few on DVD. IMO, you can’t beat that deal with a stick!

Probably because the thread went off on a tangent about raccoons and Christmas trees. That is a very topic sensitive thread.

I’m guessing it was a certain poster being a jerk and down playing the impact of COVID, which is a bit stupid when several members have had loved ones seriously ill and one having lost a in-law.

Fair enough having that opinion but it was obvious he was there to stir so I think it’s related to that.

For the casual movie or TV series watcher I agree streaming is easy and convenient but for the enthusiast it is a CF of hardware and apps. Here is a fairly good list of features vs hardware.

For me:

Nvidia Shield Pro 2019: Has many apps, has to use an add on app to switch between 23.976, 24 and 25 FPS (frames per second). Does 23.976 and 24 most of the time but have to select 25 manually. Nvidia has posted they have stopped working on auto frame rate switching. Has Dolby Atmos audio via most apps including Movies Anywhere but not Disney+

Roku Ultra 2019: My projector is a true 4K (4096 pixels) display but it is SDR @ 8 bits. The Roku has real problems handshaking with this device. The Roku has many apps. It does auto frame rate switching except for Netflix. Used mainly for Disney+

Sony UBP-X1000ES and Sony UBP-X800: Very limited apps, no Atmos on any app. Converts Dolby Digital+ to Dolby Digital on Netflix. Very fast app load and never misses on frame rate selection.

Apple TV 4K: Currently do not own one because it does not do integer frame rates. Outputs Dolby Atmos as MAT 2.0 which some processors has problems with. If the frame rate problem is fixed in the next version then I most likely will procure one.

I am doing fine; thanks for asking after me.

I have been keeping myself busy with other things and I have been watching my annual slate of Christmas movies at the rate of 2 per night. I am very much enjoying my new AVR and I am looking forward to expanding upon it.

I still check in to see what everyone is talking about in this and other threads, but sometimes I just like to stand back and listen. You are all doing a fine job keeping the conversation going.

I wish each of you the happiest of holidays including a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.

I stream all the TV i watch(which is a lot. I've finished 30+ shows this year). And also tons of movies since so many new movies this year since so many are streaming exclusives. Putting a disc in feels unnatural at this point. I still buy my favs on disc however. I am not an audiophile.

My fave show that I found, watched, and completed this year was Peaky Blinders. Even though I’m a physical media guy myself, I’m also very glad to have been able to have Netflixed the series. I’m now a big Cillian Murphy fan ! The more options we have to consume our media, the better off we are says me.

We stream quite a bit of TV many of which are 24 and 25 FPS. I am very sensitive to frame drops so outputting original frame rates is very important to me. Same with many LED Christmas lights, many flicker really bad because they use a half-wave rectifier so I modify them using a full-wave rectifier.

Most of the TV streaming stuff with Dolby Atmos is lackluster so you want miss much if you do not have Atmos.

I grew up on a small farm and we had to do a lot of physical work so even in my twilight years I have no trouble transporting that <1 oz. disc from shelf to player.

Where are you with sub-woofer selection?

I watched the Total Recall 4K disc and was not impressed by the video or audio.
