I've been a directv customer since EVEN BEFORE HD.. (Yes I was one of the ones that paid $700 for their First HUGHES HD receiver) Since then, I've upgraded to a much nicer TV, I have the HR20-700 DVR...ABSOLUTELY LOVE directv...yes it's not the cheapest...but definately the best for HD content...hands down. Especially with them recently adding the On Demand Feature...I know they're releasing that new HR21 pro...but the price is pretty outrageous. I think you would be happy switching over at any time..plus they just dropped the price of their HD-DVR as well.

i've had Directv HD for 8 months now, for the first 5 months everything seemed to be in 1080i, then about 3 months ago everything went down to 720p, for example NBC,CBS,FOX. i never changed my setup so know it was a signal change.

Surfdude12.....it looks like you have a 1080P monitor, so I would suggest that you change the receiver to native resolutions. I have a 1080P monitor myself and have my HD DVR set to native. WIth this setting, the receiver will automatically switch to the resolution of the channel. For example, ESPN News is 480i, Fox HD is 720p, HBO HD is 1080i, so on and so on.

Another thing you might check for is if your receiver was set to 720p. It has happened to me before.

I switched to Directv 2 years ago and never looked back, it is superb. Football looks LIFELIKE, VIVID! I always thought people were exaggerating about how real football looks on Directv.

If I HAD to choose, I'd say FOX shows the best picture quality. But the picture (either 1080i or 720p) is always crystal clear on NFL Network, ESPN, NBC, CBS too.

Of course, my TV did appear in some 2007 commercials as "The Official HDTV of the NFL"

I am considering switching from comcast triple play to direct tv or dish.

What package & stuff do you guys suggest / have

What internet provider do you use?

We never use a house phone so we dont need it we have cell phones.

And my biggest concern...when it rains or whatever does the picture get fuzzy or go out?

I want to get a package with a decent amount of channels and HD

We like sports mainly football/basketball---would like it in HD
and i want a couple nickelodean/disney/cartoon channels
Thats pretty much it. we watch movies on the ps3 so dont need many movie channels

Yeah, I noticed it was missing ABC, FOX, ABC family, and Disney Channel HD. Is NBC on there?

I concur with those praising DirecTV. A definite thumbs up from me.

I signed up this summer for the free premium package deal if you buy NFL Sunday Ticket. I love all of those HD channels -- OUTSTANDING!!!

But...

Those Sunday Ticket channels suck so bad. They are in 480i mode, but the resolution is more like a VHS recording in the 6-hour mode. REALLY BAD. Thank goodness most of the games I want are on broadcast TV.

Thats because you need the superfan add on to get the HD games those are the standard deff games we get the superfan because of the game mix redzone chan HD and so we dont have to watch the games in SD.... If you call and complain they might add on the superfan for free.

I'm considering moving from Comcast to DirecTV. Anyone in the Maryland area make the switch and what has your experience been?

I had Dish Network MANY years ago (probably 7 years ago) and felt everytime it rained I would get pixelatation. My wife and I worried about that same thing since we DVR a lot of things in order to watch them over the weekend or after the kids finally fall asleep.

Everyone I know who switched from DirecTV to Comcast have regretted the change. They eventually switched back. You can't beat DirecTV's picture.

Lou, I can't specifically address your question about pixelization because I live in Southern CA and it never rains here, so we are not subject to rain fade. I can tell you that the D* DVR is great. The wife and I are much like you where we DVR most of our shows and watch them when the kids are asleep or over at friends houses.

I know the mod's on this forum don't like us hawking other websites, but I would suggest that you pose your question on DBSTalk.com. I can almost guarantee you that someone will have first-hand experience about your question.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I posted over at the other site as well.

Now I need to do some cost analysis and convince the wife of the switch.

Go for it Lou, I'm in Columbia MD and the occasional lightning and thunder storms does create issues with the HD channels esp on my HD-DVR receiver but havent had any issues with my regular HD receivers [sans DVR]. That being said I can count the times I have had to revert to SD channels on one hand...err actually on one finger! An ex-Comcast/Dish/Verizon subscriber and I have no regrets whatsoever! I have every HD channel that DirecTV offers under the sun..granted it costs a nice penny or two but I want everything I can get my hands on on HD

I signed up for DirecTV just after posting my above post. I have never regretted the move. Bye, bye, Comcast!!!

I think the PQ is better all around. The kids love the HD kids channels. My 7 year old has a crush on iCarly and loves seeing her in HD.

Its sweet aint it..my bro is stuck with Time Warner since they seem to have a monopoly in NYC and hates the fact that he cant get DirecTV!
