Thanks guys.

If I order from wowhd.de to Austria, I won't get charged with customs more than usual, correct?

How about Zavvi.com?

Wowhd seems to have many subsiduaries in different countries, so it shouldn't be an issue, right?

As you can see, I have no clue about these customs regulations.

Somewhat out of the scope of this forum but with regard to WOWHD.de I doubt if anything has changed, both Germany and Austria remain part of the EU.

No idea about Zavvi.

WoWhd.de won’t change until 1st July when you will also need to pay VAT on all purchases as U.K. has implemented from today. Up until then only purchase over €22 subject to VAT.

The latest order I had was a pre-order for an item released on the 15th December. It shipped on the 10th and arrived on the 22nd, so it took 50% longer than the usual 8 days I've had in previous years (and which I even had in the summer of 2020). Some (all?) now seem to come via RR Donnelly to the UK and then Hermes within the UK, so there's sometimes (always?) now a bit of limited tracking that can be used.

I find the Hermes delivered items are still turning up in under 2 weeks. You can tell these as they have a tracking number in your order history.

Those without tracking number are still coming Royal Mail. They were taking around 3 weeks for me earlier in December but I would write off a week now for Christmas so would expect them to be currently taking around a month.

Looks like Vinegar Syndrome didn't get the memo, as they appear to be offering shipping to the UK as normal. Is it worth risking an order?

They always used to give dubious customs declarations, so may be planning to continue doing the same.

Trouble is, VS usually mark packages down to around $5.00, which was fine when the limit was £15.00. Now you’ll get a small VAT charge on the $5.00, but there’s the £8.00 handling fee on top, unless they go legit and charge the 20% upfront.

How VS mark packages going forward is a matter for them, however, unless you're buying a few titles it would probably work out cheaper taking a £8.00 handling fee hit rather then paying the 20% upfront.

I wonder how exactly HMRC are going to enforce this rule of making the sellers collect the VAT upfront? Surely the only way to do it would be to automatically send back packages that arrive without the VAT pre-paid? Meaning anything bought from VS right now may not ever arrive?

I can't imagine Royal Mail would be happy about losing a nice little earner!

There will be no more £8 handling fees as Royal Mail won't be collecting the VAT from customers anymore.

Exactly. Packages without the customs paid declaration will be returned to sender or if no address destroyed by customs unless marked as a gift under £39.

Which basically means only order from overseas businesses that are registered for UK VAT and apply VAT at sale else you will likely never see your stuff?

WOWHD have added the 20% I noticed for titles under £15 now
but them and few others like All Your Music, have different mailing system to other US places like VS or Diabolik (its not direct)

so I don't think they will get any handling charges ?
guess we will find out when people order and receive

I have couple orders to be sent in next few weeks from US (Diabolik & Command) so can update on those when they arrive

I also have a missing title from VS on the way, so should get that in a week or two
I got the 9 other titles this week with no charges was marked as $10 value

I made my first order in about 8 years a couple of months back, for a martial arts movie Amazon.de didn't have. Arrived within about 10 days.

I can’t bear the mental image of VS discs being destroyed by customs
