Well as far as power efficiency to watch streaming you might want to utilize the least electrical consumption, such as a ARM based tablet, its a small screen but all in one, highly power efficient. ARM based laptops being next. PS5 down to a USB ChromaCast just ignores that most TVs provide their own streaming Apps, not like you need any of those devices except if they contributed with the variety of streaming content availability.

But yes on both sides you could observe massive usage of electric power because of streaming. Both from the Server array hosts down to the consumer network connected digital receiver (computer/TV/additional devices).

Streaming devices are pretty essential unless you want to be locked out of a tv app service after three years due to lack of support.

If you are using apps in well supported TV OS they have updates always. Even old Samsungs. (Tizen, WebOS, Android )

Not talking about the FW for TV or its operation, but the 3rd party provided apps.

I should add I do consider what consoles and even a Apple TV 4K brings is more then just a streaming receiver as far as being essential.

Well, theaters have been opened here since late August and no one is going. Even though there was a dearth of content. And they are still eating at restaurants and bars. Though WW84 did seem to be sold out on Christmas.

I never want theaters to die as they are my sanctuary and I can't always pay attention at home, but the 4 times I have been to a theater since Sept there have only been 2 or 3 others max in the entire theater.

Not sure. I'm not an audio guy yet. I will upgrade that in the next year or so.

I have 2 Rokus. Before that I was using 1st gen Chromecast + phone and the native Samsung app(which is actually way more aesthetically pleasing than the Roku one)

Family Video Liquidating Operations, Cites Ongoing Pandemic for Shutdown

Quote:
Family Video, the last-standing packaged media rental chain in the U.S., is calling it quits nearly 43 years after opening its first store — Video Movie Club — in Springfield, Ohio in 1978. The privately-owned company, which cited the ongoing pandemic for the decision, said it would begin liquidation of its remaining 250 stores offering deals on DVD, Blu-ray Disc movies and related merchandise. At its peak, Family Video operated 800 stores.

Still doesn’t change the fact you have to replace the remote after two years.

My MX-980 used in the HT is coming up on 6 years old and has the original rechargeable battery. Stays in a charging cradle when not in use.

My MX-450 is 11 years old and is still working great. I use rechargeable AA batteries in it. It's more limited than other models from URC, but my setup is fairly simple and it serves my needs well.

. Had a MX-850 for several years and used rechargeable batteries in it, had two sets, one in the remote and one set in the charger or charged. Did the same with my Marantz RC2000 MKII from earlier times.

That's what they said about Automobiles, three years was a good run then they would fall apart. I kept my cars around ten years even back then. If you buy quality it tends to last. I kept my TV's a while, at least 10 years or more. You guys should remember my 62" Mitsubishi 1080i DLP that I replaced in 2017 with the Sony UHD 4K.

For Christmas my 26" CRT Toshiba HDTV was replaced with a 43" UHD 4KTV, and I have been running around trying to dispose of it. It still works, but no one wants it!

BB recycles TVs 50” and smaller. Call them for drop off details.

On that note, saw the above. What the heck are you meant to do when the remote dies after two years?
Have they updated the article or something? Because it says that the battery will last for about seven years (inc. recharging, obvs) before it dies.

Sony debuts Bravia Core: 4K HDR streaming at "UHD Blu-ray equivalent quality"

Quote:
Sony has today announced its own video streaming service that will launch on the company's XR range of 2021 TVs. It serves 4K and IMAX Enhanced movies at "up to 80 Mbps".

Sony's new video streaming service will, at least initially, be exclusive to its own TVs, and only the new high-end "XR" 2021 8K and 4K LCD TVs as well as "XR" 4K OLED TVs. The catalog will also be limited to movies from Sony's own movie studio, Sony Pictures.

Sounds sorta like a reboot of Sony Ultra. Maybe they will have better luck the third time around. Sony should have titled that “Similar to UHD Blu-ray quality”.

Yeah, must have done. It said 2 originally because many tech commentators brought it up.

Obviously, a translation issue from the original statement.
