Aye, who's to say he didn't have a contingency plan for the contingency plan?

I just want Rey to have a Bobby Ewing moment...

It was all a dream, "Rey what I have shown you is a possible future... Clouded your future is" "Once I had a jedi who thought he could save his friends and still defeat the Empire... But that was a long time ago, you have stolen this ship that once belonged to a non believer of the force, a cowboy of the galaxy, choose your path wisely to prevent Episodes 7-9 from ever happening"

Did you mean to say you watched Rogue One between ROTS and ANH? Or did you deliberately watch it between ANH and TESB?

Anyway... I love Rogue One.

No you're right, I done confoosed meself. Watched that and Solo in-between the PT and OT. Solo first, then Rogue One so it would lead directly into Star Wars. And yes, Rogue One rocks.

Ah, I see. I like Solo too, but I’m not sure I’ll bother with it in a marathon viewing, as it’s quite a separate story from the main saga itself. Not sure I’ll even bother with the ST now either.. it all just feels a bit pointless.

Eps 1 to 6 and Rogue One tell a pretty fantastic story, I think that’s all I need for the main saga. But The Mandalorian has been doing a great job continuing things after ROTJ, in terms of the state of the galaxy, it feels “right”.

I watched the first four episodes of Mando and was honestly kinda bored. I mean it NAILS the SW atmosphere and such, but the story and characters just didn't do much for me. Granted I am much more a movie guy than a TV show guy, and also am much more a Star Trek guy than a Star Wars guy, but still I am surprised it didn't hook me in. I do plan to go back to it though, at some point.

All his Sith pals and the infrastructure around him, the cloning gear etc was wiped out in the cataclysm. He’d put all his chips on Rey or Kylo killing him in anger and his spirit consuming them. Rey gave her life destroying Palpatine to save the fleet. And Ben gave his life to bring her back. So all opportunities for Palpatine surviving were seemingly neutralised.

I mean, where did his "dark spirit" or whatever go in the core of the Death Star? None of those things were around there either. I guess you could hand wave it as some Sith acolyte hanging out in the bowels of the Death Star who managed to get out in time if you really wanted to, but you could do the same thing on whatever planet it was in RoS.

Set condition to Retcon 1, I say again, set condition to Retcon 1. This is not a drill.

Palps’ spirit could’ve been transferred to a backup cloning facility run by other Sith loyalists who were genetic engineers experimenting with different species. Perfect opportunity for an Ep. X where we learn that Palpatine’s new body was constructed by cloning an old woman and eyeballs from one of the chimpanzees that fixed Kylo’s mask. This would tie in nicely to the emperor’s appearance in the unaltered Empire Strikes Back. He was testing out this backup body during his scene with Vader.

Love Rogue One! And love love Mandalorian! Honestly, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni made me love Star Wars again and not feel mad about it, which I didn't think was possible. After revisiting the sequel films again, they just didn't hold up to what I was hoping for, and they just all feel disjointed now to me when viewed as a whole. I wish the prequels and sequels had done it for me, but alas...I'm thankful for the awesome television content we're currently getting, and hopefully will get soon with Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett.

I don't know man, the whole trilogy is extremely frustrating. I love parts of all three, I hate parts of all three, but most importantly it's just a jumble of unplanned ideas. I know Star Wars fans love to debate the particulars, which is better and how this moment compares to that one, but honestly when the finished product has such a lack of cohesive throughput, I don't think it's worth bothering.

I can’t believe the theatrical versions of the originals have yet to see a Blu release. Is Disney never going to do this? I’m losing hope.

Of course, the trouble with being the perfect guy to bring it back in a nostalgic way is that you skip over all the foundational stuff you need going forward. You're so committed to looking backward that you forget to lay any track for what's ahead; the story you're actually telling. Like, the state of the galaxy. Or who your "big bad" villain is.

I like THE FORCE AWAKENS - a lot actually - but its lack of interest in being anything other than "More Star Wars, Forget Those Nasty Prequels" significantly hurt Disney Star Wars. It also doomed the series' launch in emerging markets, as a movie that is 100% about nostalgia probably isn't going to be terribly effective for people who don't cream themselves over earlier movies.

The truth is, we'll never know what could've come from THE LAST JEDI because Disney ran away from it. But nothing else in modern Star Wars, on film or on television, has compared to how I felt seeing Emperor 2.0 getting vivisected halfway through the middle movie of a trilogy, or Luke Skywalker reuniting with the Force.

That’s exactly what I’m going to do. I don’t care for Solo so my viewing from here on out will be 1-6 with Rogue One sandwiched between 3 & 4. Perfection, basically. Luke’s glance at the three Jedi ghosts is the proper way to end the Skywalker saga. Nothing left to do here. The new characters just don’t hold up. Rey is a flawless bore and they do nothing with the rest of the cast.

I was in the same boat but the Mando slowly but surely gets better and better until the second half of season two where it becomes quite good. Stick with it.

Because "reasons". Or, terrible writing and having no idea what you’re going to do until five minutes before starting filming.

Of course, he had some super zonker, cloning juice chamber thingie and he’s been controlling everything since like the beginning of time. He’s a demigod and it’s because of "reasons".

For whatever reason, I just get more "into" STAR WARS in a feature film format. To me, the movies feel more like a "big event" than the drip-drip-drip of weekly episodes. I do love THE MANDALORIAN, but for the first time I've been inserting it into my current Saga viewing ('cuz the gig I'm on "pushed" a week due to a small Covid outbreak among the crew, and I've had VERY little to do for the last seven days), and I've gotta say: now that I'm approaching the end of THE MANDALORIAN portion of my marathon, I'm really looking forward to things "taking off again" with FORCE AWAKENS. And again... to be extra extra clear... this doesn't mean I don't like THE MANDALORIAN; I really dig it, and I feel very fortunate to spend as much time in the STAR WARS universe as possible... but I do not feel that palpable "big event" excitement for Mando that I get with the feature films -- no matter how many times I've seen 'em.

Can't quite put my finger on "why", but I do know for a fact that John Williams has something to do with it. I appreciate THE MANDALORIAN score, but it doesn't "do" anything for me. In contrast, when I'm watching one of the features, I'm always looking forward to the next epic music cue.

That’s assuming the New Republic make the same mistake twice and don’t do any mopping up on Exegol.

Maybe it will be revealed that you’re right. In a thousand years time. Like it was at the beginning at the prequels. And it will be old master Grogu saying “Extinct, the Sith are. Return without it being previously excused in enough detail to satisfy some of the fanbase and not ruin their head canon, they cannot. Always some of them there are.”
