I actually like the packaging and artwork, but that's subjective. If VS today were to release, then I'm sure it would be even better. VS in 2018 would have had inferior packaging as they really didn't start going all out until recently.

Either way, I would PREFER it if VS got the title, but I wouldn't mind if Criterion got it.

I just know the internet will have a field day if it doesn't have a 4K release.

I'm not 4k ready yet, but I would still prefer a 4k release just to future proof. But yes, people would lose their minds. It would seem silly for Criterion to not release it in 4K though when Second Sight's release is already out there, mind you, it wouldn't be the first time Criterion has done this.

Yeah, it will be a mess if this happens. There are going to be comments all over this site as well as social media along these lines "Why No 4K?" "4K?" "Criterion is behind in the times!" "What's wrong with 4K?" "My back hurts" "Really, no 4K?" and so on and so on.

Film presentation comes first for me. Everything else I consider bonus.

At this point though I can hold out. I assume whomever releases it will include all four cuts, so there would be no point to Second Sight's release without the extras, unless again, Criterion gets it and doesn't release them on 4K.

Sure, but for a title as important as Night, I want a definite release. Again, the other companies I mentioned would have probably delivered just as good as a transfer, but would have most likely also given us all of the previously released extras, original theatrical art, and in the case of Arrow or Vinegar Syndrome, probably a nice thick outer box with a booklet. Leaving off two 1+ hour docs. is a pretty big omission. I hate having to keep multiple releases of a film to have all of the extras.

Second Sight's release of Dawn of the Dead is what you call a definite releases. Hopefully whoever releases it here delivers something equally as great and I don't see Criterion going all out like that.

Totally agree, I was super disappointed by Criterion's release of Night. I love having the original poster (as a reversible if need be). Plus, the packaging is super flimsy and cheap, the booklet is barely a page and worst, it's written behind a poster, one of the worst packaging decision i've ever seen! It's a pain to read because you must open the entire poster to do so and on top of that, what is the point of the poster, seeing as if you put it on a wall you loose the essay! Criterion are pretty terrible at releasing horror movies, imo.

Arrow would have given us a 60 pages booklet, the original poster as a reversible cover, a much better new artwork, a sturdy slipbox and nearly every extras ever released. I'm up to a point where if one of my favorite movie is announced by Criterion, I'm faring the worst now, except for older classic movies from the Golden age of Hollywood or silent movies.

Edit: I also find it funny when people say the A/V is all that matters. Why buy physical if you don't care about the packaging, the extras or all the other stuff? That's part of the fun, imo. For me it's as much about the packaging as it is about the transfer. It's the reason I own multiple versions of my favorite movies, to the chagrin of my wife. :P

I am disappointed that didn't have to pay a $10 surcharge for a cardboard slip and a 60 page book that had an 8 page essay, 2 pages dedicated to cast and crew, 2 pages of production credits and 48 pages of screen caps.

MARTIN as a bonus feature on ... a DAWN OF THE DEAD release? I don’t think we have to worry about that.

Killer's Kiss was an extra on The Killing. The Front Page was (essentially) an extra on His Girl Friday.

It's possible, if Criterion got its hands on both, that is.

That makes absolutely no sense and goes against everything I just said. :/
And obviously the transfer is super important, hence why I said both are important to me.

My Robocop and Tremors arrow booklets have a LOT of great essays, I'm not sure what you are talking about in this case. Arrow usually delivers when it comes to their limited releases. Maybe it's because I love buying books and reading about movies but for me these kind of extras are always very welcomed.

A/V matters the MOST. Packaging is cute, but ultimately just for looking at...which why not buy a book?

The bluray on the other hand is factory pressed (which cost many thousands to do yourself) and yest I agree about extras, and they should all be there. Still at the end of the day, they don't call them extras if they aren't exactly that. The movie is what matters the most.

A true 4K bare bones would make me plenty happy if that is what it had to be. The rest should all be secondary. I would gladly chuck all the other crap to have the perfect edition in the absolute best possible quality.

My money would go to Arrow because while they seem to have framing issues they don't do any grain managing like Criterion and Vinegar Syndrome (not that I really complaining about either).

For me, the absolute best company to get Night of the Living Dead in my opinion would be Sony with the A team. There simply no better for me. These are all just dreams.

Of course Indicator would be nice too. I take them over most companies as well. They do fantastic work in most cases.

Considering Reflections on the Living Dead already has a Blu-ray release by another company, that one is pretty much off the table.

Don't have Tremors, but I have the RoboCop and I'll have to disagree with you about its usefulness (I remember a large chunk of it is devoted to differences between the TV and theatrical versions, which was, essentially a text repeat of the comparisons found on the 2nd disc.)

The limited editions of The Hills Have Eye is about a 60 page booklet with around an 8 page essay. At least in that case they hadn't started pricing them at $49.99.

The limited edition of The Bird with the Crystal Plumage's essay was a reprint of the disc producer's blog entry. A total ripoff for a $50 set.

I like reading about movies, but, very often, find Arrow's commissioned work not very engaging/enlightening. (And, for god's sake, would it kill them to get someone other than Tom Mes or Jasper Sharpe to write about Japanese films.)

Well, I guess I was lucky with the ones I bought. :P
Really enjoyed both booklets. I missed the limited release of American Werewolf in London but i'm glad the new steelbook will have the booklet, hopefully that's an interesting read too.
How's the booklet for the Dawn of the dead second sight? Looks really big! I regret not getting it but at 150$ Canadian I couldn't justify to my wife paying this much for one movie. :P
