Thanks.

Maybe not, don’t know if he’s ever written a script before. His ideas may have been good but we’ll never know.

Doesn’t mean everybody changes in that time. I’m still the same person I ever was just more experienced. I didn’t completely change my personality.

Anyway it is what it is and like I’ve said before even though I didn’t like TLJ much I’m not gonna loose sleep over it, I’m just chipping in to the discussion with my thoughts and feelings. I know a helluva lot of people don’t agree with me but that’s life!

Have a nice weekend.
Well it was never going to be written by a screenwriter that way, because that was never the intention of this trilogy, even going as far back as Lucas. Whether you look at what he said the ST would be like when he considered making it in the future after ROTJ in the 80s or when he decided to make them in the 2010s, before selling to Disney, the plan was always that it would be about the next generation. Every trilogy featured a different generation. The only time it would have been the continued adventures of Luke Skywalker and company is back when Lucas planned three more movies right after ROTJ. Also with their ages and physical conditions, it wasn't even feasible to have Mark, Carrie, Billy Dee, etc. have starring roles. Mark had to get into so much shape just for his limited physical activity in TLJ, Carrie really suffered from all the weight she had to lose and her health simply wasn't there, and Billy Dee could really only sit or stand around. Harrison is the only one who was able to sustain his own action movie.

I saw that afterwards, I didn't realize you were mentioning a spelling error.

I suppose it's a matter of personal taste but I think the general negative feedback to TROS, even from TLJ haters, shows that there was a need to grow the franchise.

Going by the ideas I've heard Mark say before, I think he's best left in front of the camera than behind it. Not that being a professional writer always makes one a qualified choice as Chris Terrio was no improvement.

Luke didn't change his personality completely either. Everything we saw in TLJ had a foundation in the OT with Luke making drastic decisions to protect the ones he loves without really thinking about the long-term effects. Or his being easily influenced by the dark side. The way Yoda describes the dark side means that you don't just conquer it once and never have to deal with it ever again. Lucas had Yoda tempted by the dark side even in TCW and he's nearly 900 years old there. The same is true in real life where human beings are constantly at risk of temptation and their own inner dark sides and I haven't met anyone who just learned to conquer that one day and never suffered again. The dark side could also be equated to alcoholism, you could be sober for decades, but that doesn't mean the ongoing inner conflict isn't there. So Luke throwing away the saber at the end of ROTJ didn't mean he was never going to be at risk of turning to the dark ever again, even ever so briefly.

Your opinions are perfectly valid and you're way more civil about your feelings than a lot of people on here so I always appreciate that! There's nothing wrong with you not liking TLJ or the ST in general.

You have a nice weekend as well.

I’m sure a portion of the SW fandom who aren’t fanboys as you put it enjoyed it aswell. Plenty of people at work I’ve spoken to enjoyed it. I’m sure it was well received from all the media and stories I saw and read. The feedback was good over here.

Oh well we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
Actually I remember some people who watched TPM and were under the belief that Anakin was young Luke and Padme was young Leia lol. And since Rogue One came out after TFA, some people thought that was a direct sequel and thought Jyn was a recast Rey or this was her origin story. I do find it interesting though that in both of JJ's films, Luke has miniscule roles and only Rian Johnson really gave him a platform.

It was well-received but it also got plenty of criticism as well and when the finale debuted, there were countless articles about how Mando's Season 2 finale was the death sentence for the franchise and proved it was never going to expand beyond the Skywalkers. And there was an outcry on social media as well, especially from some fans who were angry that Mando and Baby Yoda's parting was overshadowed or that four women fighting together was completely ignored and not given any significance.

Let's not sugarcoat this - she was still dabbling in drugs. Can't remember the last time I was so angry/sad about someone's death. Such a waste and avoidable.

I recently read A Star is Bored, the book written by her former assistant which is fiction but basically an autobiography of his time with her and it's very clear that she didn't drop the drugs, and in fact relapsed after learning she was coming back to Star Wars. She was also pretty honest about her issues with losing weight and how difficult it was to hear that she was so old now that she couldn't even serve as a model for her younger self in Rogue One.

I know her brother also said that the family had made peace with Debbie Reynolds' passing because of her age, but Carrie's death especially hit hard because she had so many plans now that her career had been revived and there were so many lost projects as a result that he felt the public would have enjoyed. I still haven't gotten over her death even though it's been four years.

some of the redwood bark and shrubs hit about those levels of DNR
and some other stuff does too but it is hidden by a very fine, pixel level sized layer of fake grain overlayed

anyway those two are some of the worst DNR of all so doesn't say much to beat those

This saga doesn’t have be all Lifetime Network certified. It’s OK to do some shocking things. Kylo killing Han continued with this theme and I loved that too but they didn’t let Kylo kill Leia which they should have. The sissy paradigm took over and by the end of Rise, Kylo was a sappy mess. Then, the most lame kiss ever wrecked him completely. Oh well.
this is the, IMO unfortunate, change that happend post 80s when grunge and all took over, suddenly anything that wasn't brutally dark, depressing, violent was mocked as being cheesy or wussy or shallow or dumb and so on

just being violent or depressing doesn't have to equal depth

I said some parts of frames of some scenes. Look at some of the bark on some redwoods, it goes below DVD detail. Look at the times where they accidentally dropped a large, circular smearing brush onto frames. Even some shrubs I think go below DVD levels in some scenes. And there are some entire little scenes where Jabba shows less actual detail (under the misleading fine, fake grain) than on the blu-ray and plenty of the shadow depths in many scenes have less than blu-ray detail.

Didn't notice the DNR or black crush very much on ROTJ 4k - in fact i was relieved even for some marginal improvements over the previous bluray which i couldn't continue watching - especially for the scenes on Endor (foliage, forest, ewok).

Overall, i thought ROTJ 4k on my 55 OLED was much less bothersome than the latest 4k release of LOTR (2 towers and ROTK - except for FOTR which was fine).

Is it truly more detail though. Or is it sharpening?

I personally never noticed the portrait of Jabba that's hanging on the wall in his sail barge until I watched the UHD.

more real detail

Yeah some things on the UHD have much more detail than ever seen before, but a lot of it looks very weird and some of it, unlike say for Star Wars, actually has less real detail (like parts of frames on some of the stuff on Endor and a lot of the very dark shadows all over the place). In some scenes in his palace Jabba looks utterly bizarre, they totally smeared him over in a weird way and then added very detailed, fine grain, so at first glance it looks like oh it's not waxy, it has grain, very fine little specs, etc. but then why does it look so strange? because it's fake grain over a total mess. He doesn't look real or like rubber or like CGI he just looks very odd.

What happened to this Buena Vista remaster, looks rather lifeless in terms of colors in some frames?

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...143207&i=4&l=0

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...143204&i=1&l=0

Seems like it was a simple 1-click BD-conversion from the 4K master:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...143207&i=4&l=0

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...143204&i=1&l=0

Bah, couldn't they have bothered to at least check the colors quickly...
