I wish they would have titled it Scream 5 to match the others. It's going to look odd now.

Scream (1996)
Scream 2 (1997)
Scream 3 (2000)
Scream 4 (2011)
Scream (2022)

Why is there a resistance to add the sequel number to certain horror films? The fourth Final Destination film is titled "The Final Destination" which confuses it with the original "Final Destination". Why didn't they title it "Final Destination 4"? Parts 2, 3, and 5 use the sequel number.

Others include leaving out the "6" to Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, or leaving out the "Part V" to Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, although the posters and trailers use the full "Friday the 13th, Part V: A New Beginning" title. The fourth Friday the 13th film is titled "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" when they could have just as easily titled it "Friday the 13th, Part IV: The Final Chapter".

I think it’s something to do with the idea you have to “catch up” on the previous films that might alienate younger audience that they want to attract to Horror films. Like you just have to know ‘Scream’ is to see the new Scream in the same way you only really have to know who ‘Michael Myers’ is to watch the new Halloween.

I already doubt the validity of this. “A really popular artist recorded a song for the credits.” They just finished filming in November and are deep in the editing process right now. Songs for the soundtrack is usually one of the LAST things they would be working on, I highly doubt some “popular artist” has already recorded a new song this early in the process. Plus all the other spoilers could apply regardless if this person saw it or not. Shocking deaths in a horror movie? Happens all the time. A similar vibe to the 1st and 2nd movie? Sure, anyone could have figured that out based on the interviews the directors have given about how they want to get back to the scariness of the earlier movies. Multiple endings? They’ve done that before, so have other movies - not out of the realm of the possibility they did it here too, especially when Kevin Williamson himself confirmed there were lots of fake scripts out there.

My guess is this is just another troll posting stuff to get people all excited and talking.

This is from an instagram account that anyone can submit fake rumors to.

I doubt this will be Sidney's best role yet whenever the first one is and nothing can top it.

Also, with all the spring movies now getting to summer/fall/early next year.. I wonder if Scream (5) will get pushed back.

They probably based that on the interviews from the directors who have praised the acting of the original trio and stated fans are going to be really surprised and really happy with the direction they have taken with Sidney, Gale and Dewey. Also, Michael Kennedy, the scriptwriter of Freaky, has read the Scream 5 script and has stated in passing in several interviews and also on a podcast he was on that the script is absolutely amazing. His favorite movie in the series is Scream 2 and he stated that the trio is used in the best capacity since Scream 2. As a huge Scream fan, I don’t think he would say that if their roles were worse than Scream 3 or 4 because he has actually talked about how he was disappointed in those two and they were missing the aspects of what he loves about the first two. Because of that, I actually believe the trio has some great stuff to work with in this. He has no reason to promote this movie or praise the script as he’s not involved so the fact that he’s over the moon about the whole thing leaves me very excited.

The Freaky director, Christopher Landon, also read it and loved it. Lucky guys.

Yeah I know haha. I definitely trust praise from people who are actually fans like us. I want to get the depth and emotion of the original trio from the first two movies, especially 2 which gave us the peak performances of their characters IMO. If someone who is obsessed with Scream 2 is thrilled with how they use the trio then I feel extremely hopeful.

Hoping the title changes to ‘Scream 5’ by the time it’s released.

I feel like it was done to reference movies like Halloween (2018), The Thing (2011), The Grudge (2020), Candyman (2021), etc. Movies that are sequels (in the case of The Thing a prequel and somewhat The Grudge) who share the same name as their original movies.

The studios do this to not lock the audience on previous entries. So if I am watching Scream 5 do I need to see the other 4 first.

They could still keep the title Scream and easily style the ‘M’ to have a red V in the middle representing the Roman numeral 5. Keep it subtle.

I know the boyfriend and roommate were the original part 2 killers, and in one version, Cotton was a 3rd killer....just unsure if that was just script stuff or if they actually filmed it.
