Default Good Floor standing speakers

I'm thinking of upgrading my speaker system. I'm going to start with the fronts. I don't have a bunch of money but I will jump up and pay for it if its worth it. I would like to spend about $500 for a pair of front speakers. Whats the best speaker? Is my budget too low to get a good pairs of front floorstanding speakers? If I go up to say like $700 for a pair what a good speaker? Am I going to notice a big difference for $200???

My Living room is 17 x 12... please help.... thanx!

Here are some really good floor standers for much less. The only catch is the shipping costs since they are so large. That leaves you extra room for a center, subwoofer(s), and surrounds.

Def Tech BP6b's can be had for that budget and are going to be hard to beat at that price range in my opinion. They sound a lot better than anything in the $500 range. They're bipolar though. Keep in mind their center is more expensive than most along that price, but in my opinion it's well worth it.

I'm obviously biased, but I had the Polks so I've heard both. Or you can even go higher which does make a difference. I would suggest going out and listening and then setting your absolute budget and sticking to it.

Kharma’s Grand Enigma
$1,000,000
Kharma, Dutch makers of top quality audio products, aren’t exactly forthcoming about the Grand Enigma. Reportedly, the world’s most expensive speaker system is entirely unique. Grand Exquisite, Kharma’s second most expensive speaker system, commands a mere $220,000 price tag.

If those are out of your price range...? I would get some Polk TSi's

I'm sorry I'm new with speakers... What's Bi polar mean? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

It can be good sometimes and bad others, but it is better than having speakers with muliple personalities.

Bipolar just means it has drivers pointed in two different directions. Some people like them others perfer the traditional speaker design. I think they require well thought out placement (of course all speakers do to some degree). I'll let someone that knows more about them to explain further.

Direct-radiating speakers are what you're used to- they fire straight out (well, in a cone, but you get the point). Bi-polar and di-polar speakers have speaker arrays on two or more sides of the cabinet. In the case of the BP6b, they have a tweeter and midrange on the front, and one of each on the back. The net result is that thanks to room reflection/refraction/diffusion, bi-polar speakers have an airy, more "full" sound to them. Some people don't like them. It'd be wise to do some critical listening of them before a purchase.

...personally, I love them.

it would be a critical decision to actually audition ALL your options if feasible.

no point in regret afterwards.

These are normally 500$ for the pair but are on a good sale of 150$ a piece at amazon : Boston Acoustics

http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Acousti...0964960&sr=1-1

Infinity (I currently have these). A big plus to this series is the matching center is outstanding!

http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Primu...0965073&sr=1-1

Can't go wrong with Yamaha:

http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-NS-555-...0965120&sr=1-1

These all about fit in your range. If you get the boston acoustics you leave about 150-200 for a new center also!

Btw what are you upgrading from??

Energy RC-50 $399 each.

Paradigm Monitor 7 v.5 $379 each

Def Tech BP6B $399 each

That would be my list and prolly in that order too. I know it is stretching the budget a little more then you said, but what is $100 when your talking about some of the best speakers in that price range.

Definitely a few posts of good suggestions. I'll toss in that you can get the Def Techs cheaper than that, but I imagine deals are to be had on all those speakers.

You really should just write up a list and go out and find where these speakers are available to listen to and then listen to anything else they have as well.

LOL. No, I work normal shift. I'm a night owl and play on the computer at night. When I get up I check email and occasionally post, and then when I get in to work I'm on the site all day- IT means I'm sitting around a lot.

I'm about to crash for the night but just watched 28 Days Later and wanted to "clear my head."
