Actually it just occurred to me we might finally get The Beach. Not UHD, but if the big D is leaving 20th CS to it's own home videoness.

I've never seen Heat (I know...). I have it on Blu-ray but haven't gotten around to it.

That said, it'll be curious to see if this gets a U.S. release given the Disney news a few months ago. I think this will be extremely telling of what their plans are for the immediate future. If it remains in the UK...

Any info regarding what markets this will be released on?

Will there be regional releases with native subtitles etc? I really hope so, because I'd love to get this movie in 4K.

Some Disney Atmos tracks are very underwhelming. I only found The Last Jedi(on BD), Infinity War, Black Panther and Thor Ragnarok to be underwhelming by them and really enjoyed the sound mixes of Mary Poppins Returns, The Incredibles, Ant Man & The Wasp and Endgame and others.

I think pretty much all of them require upping the volume to match other releases. Many here will say some sound a bit flat, as in less deep impact, especially when compared to some of the 7.1 DTS mixes of the same title. Some also say they don't have much going on in the height channels.

In my experience, they aren't as active in the height channels as many other mixes, but they engage when something happens that really calls for it. On my setup, pretty much all of them have required around a 5 db boost. Once matched, most sound fine, but agree some don't pack quite the punch in the low end that they should.

So in summary, pretty much all require a volume boost, and once there, other aspects are a bit hit and miss. The reviews of specific titles on the main site provide good details.

Remember our favourite YouTube reviewer with a whole video telling his minions Disney and their Fox back catalogue were no more after Home Alone? Based on nothing but what he read on a post. Lol.

“I hate to say I told you so when it comes to Disney”

Yep, I was sure to tell him this news on the comments of that video and others.

Speed. Heat. Bring them on!!! Never doubted the big fox movies would be coming for a second. You’ve only got to look for all the missing Fox juggernauts absent from the Star line up coming to Disney+ in three weeks to see the inevitable releases going forward.

Where is Aliens? Where is True Lies? Where is The Abyss?
They’ll all be coming in due course.

All I want is Pirates. Literally their third biggest series after Marvel and Star Wars.

They mentioned Speed as well. So this would mean that Disnee ARE GOING TO BE RELEASING MOAR LIVE ACTION CATALOGUE STUFF after all! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!
Yeah, fun fact to those uninformed, just because a studio distributes a movie doesn’t necessarily mean they own the rights to it. That usually goes to the production company who did the financing. It’s why Miramax movies went from being distributed from Disney to Lionsgate to Paramount, currently. Not to mention DreamWorks Animation finding a new studio nearly every few years.

"Just to reiterate: These are new Disney/Fox #4K #UltraHD catalog titles set for release in Germany in May.
I have now two sources (one retail source, one industry) that says they're real and coming to the US, also probably in May."

Speed is coming to UHD!? And Heat!!!???

I don't think Heat's HDR grade will be any different than very SDRish presentation available on iTunes, but I don't care, I just want that masterpiece in its native 4K glory

Well, Heat is owned by Arnon Milchan/ Regency Enterprises. The UHD disc was happening regardless Disney, Fox or Michael Mann's approval. Disney/FOX are under contract to just handle the US home entertainment distribution of the film. If Michael Mann is on board or not (I hope he is not, because we might get a third version of Heat.) I hope Arnon releases the Theatrical Cut on the UHD disc and most likely the last BD "Director's Definitive Edition " disc.

As for Speed, I am hoping the following extras are included:

From the previous release:
Audio Commentary w Jan De Bont
Audio Commentary w Graham Yost & Mark Gordon
Theatrical Trailer (HD)

...And the missing extras from the DVD:
-5 Extended Scenes
-On Location Featurette
-Stunts Featurette
-Visual Effects Featurette
-Bus Jump Featurette
-Metrorail Crash Featurette
-4 Multi Angle Stunt Comparisons
-4 Storyboard to film Comparisons
-Interview Gallery with Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock, Dennis Hopper, Jeff Daniels and Jan De Bont
-HBO Special
-Billy Idol Music Video
-TV Spots

A lot of HDR grades are darker, but I remember Last of the Mahicans also being quite dark on standard Blu-ray.

As far as softness, sounds like a lot of streams at the typical low bit-rates. Hopefully this will be a BD-100, but even a BD-66 should be able to average around 50 Mbps for this title. That should help the video quality quite a bit.

Has anyone seen the Kaleidescape download? I'd imagine that is more indicative of how this will look.

You've heard the LD's DD track? I don't know how anyone could say the DD or DTS tracks on the current discs matches the low end of the LD.

Geoff do you think the movie have the potential to look good on 4K, even if it's the same transfer that is available on streaming (which I assume is similar to the remastered bluray)?

Honestly it may be just me but I feel pretty content with the Michael Mann-authored 2017 BD of Heat. I hope the new one sells well regardless, though. Speed I think is sufficient on standard BD.

The 2017 Heat Blu-ray (to my eyes) suffers significant gamut errors, especially with blue and red primaries. I have tried forcing wide gamut, which does resolve most of the saturation problems dotted through out the film, the over prevalent blue tinting. But red still remains iffy throughout. Though LG OLED being good but not great with red might play a little part in that.

As for Speed. That Blu-ray is in the fossil record these days.
