Post Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps Review Thread (USE SPOILER TAGS!!)

Wall Steet 2: Money Never Sleeps Blu-ray

Synopsis:
Quote:
Set in New York City, the film takes place 23 years after the original, revolving around the 2008 stock market crash.[10] The film's plot mainly centers around the reformed Gekko acting as more of an antihero rather than a villain and follows his attempts to help Wall Street before its soon-to-be stock market crash as well as trying to repair his relationship with his daughter Winnie with the help of Jacob, Winnie's fiance.

The title of the film will be called "Money Never Sleeps", and one of the best things about the sequel is this: Michael Douglas will be returning in one of the best roles of all time, the role that won him the Best Actor Oscar in 1987: the ruthless and charismatic Gordon Gekko! Unfortunately, Charlie Sheen and Oliver Stone will not be involved in the production. But still, Michael Douglas returning to the world of Gordon Gekko after 20 years is news in itself!

Here are a couple of websites where I read about the sequel:

What do you think? Can Michael Douglas be Gekko the Great again after 20 years? We'll have to wait and see next year!
OMG...You just made my day, my week, but not my year....METAL GEAR 4 did that....

Default WALL STREET Sequel with Michael Douglas and Shia LeBeouf

Quote:
Variety reports that 20th Century Fox has signed Oliver Stone to return as director of the sequel to his 1987 hit Wall Street.

Shia LaBeouf ("Transformers" films) is negotiating to join Michael Douglas, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Gordon Gekko in the original film. The sequel will once again involve a young Wall Street trader, and the recent economic meltdown spurred by rampant greed and corruption will fit prominently into the plot. Allan Loeb wrote the script. Edward R. Pressman is back as producer.

I personally am not sure what to think of this. On one hand Stone and Douglas are back, on the other they've brought in Shia No doubt trying to appeal to both the old and new generation of viewers...i'll reserve final judgment until a trailer hits.

I agree. Also people have to get off Shia's case. I think he is a solid actor.

just because you think he's solid doesn't mean everyone else does but this movie will decide that for me. i dont think he's a bad actor, i just don't think his performances are incredible. i am interested to see how he approaches his character.

didn't see that coming

i'm on the fence about shia

i dont think he's a terrible actor, he just hasnt had incredible performances
he's done a good solid job as someone else has mentioned though
i thought he was pretty good in disturbia, but again, not a incredible performance, just a good solid one

we're still waiting on that amazing performance though
maybe we'll get it soon

+1 he is a good actor and down the road my be one of hollywood's "elite", but he does seem to be in A LOT of movies latley so maybe thats why people are getting on his case, needs to take a year off or so maybe?

I can't see Shia taking Sheen's place. Put in Jake Gyllenhaal or something.

I think that there are 2 issues with Shia. The thing about him isn't that he's bad, it's that he just hasn't done anything that's actually that good. I blame a lot of it on material: Michael Bay, Eagle Eye was retarded, Indiana Jones? Disturbia? Ugh. Please.

I can see why his stock is rising, he gives credible and acceptable performances. He seems very "normal" and people feel like they can relate to him on screen.

That being said, that brings up issue #2. I can understand a young actor wanting to take a lot of roles (and you know that not many actors are going to brag about their early work, so it's forgivable), and the publicity/box office revenue is there to make studios want him. If he wants to set himself apart though and not just fade away, he needs to start branching out. He's exactly the same in every movie he's in. He just doesn't deviate at all. He's young, has plenty of time, and I hope he can do it. If he wants to be a "real" actor and not just a flash in the pan gone in a couple years, he'll need to show some range.

Who knows, maybe Wall Street 2 if done right, could be a step in that direction for him.
