I'd be surprised if they devoted a whole second disc to an SD presentation of the TV cut. Obviously anything's possible until we know for sure, but if it were just a capture of an old tape copy they could easily fit that onto one disc with the theatrical cut.
I also doubt it was created on SD video. You had TV shows shot and finished on film at least well into the '80s, just off the top of my head, and probably later. I'd be surprised if they assembled this extended cut on video in 1978. Last edited by omgitsgodzilla; 02-09-2021 at 06:29 PM. |

I hope we get a HD scan in widescreen at minimum. The few minutes of deleted scenes that were in the Studio Canal release were in widescreen. |

Freaking finally.
Wish it was a UHD though. |

If they actually went through the trouble of scanning the TV cut in HD, I'll be bowing down to them, but something tells me it will probably be VHS-quality SD.

UHDs are more expensive to produce. It's unrealistic to expect everything to have a UHD counterpart. Maybe in a few years if physical media doesn't decline further, there will be more BD/UHD combo packs.

The only thing I have against Mr. Jackson's Kong is that awful stampede scene. And I have a fear of heights, so the end of the film actually terrifies me. But, I love how Andy Serkis embodied the big gorilla (and finally had an onscreen role).
But, as I said, I saw this as I was hitting puberty and I fell in love with Jessica. So, rose-colored glasses and all, this remains my favorite version of Kong to date. Also, that snake scene is awesome. Also, also I too seem to remember Kong grabbing that girl out of the train, realizing it's not her and splatting her against a building. |

Kong splatting a girl in the 76 one sounds like a good candidate for something your young mind might have filled in. I remember lots of old gory scenes as being far more gory than they actually were, and I know a ton of people do that. The textbook example tends to be the ear scene in Reservoir Dogs. It seems like tons of people remember seeing the ear actually come off, but the shot never existed. Same deal with the knife actually stabbing the body in Psycho. If it did, though, hoo-boy. I can't imagine that considering the tone of the rest of the movie. I can't wait to see it. |

Yeah, the blue screen seams do show too much in the stampede scene. And I also agree about the ending. I remember getting major vertigo as I watched it on the huge theater screen. It felt like I was on the building ledge.
