I just recently ordered several of them from DiabolikDVD and all came with slips except for Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. I imagine it will depend on where you order from though. Not sure if they've run out of slip editions yet.

A Google translate of this Hungarian article seems to say that Kino will be releasing six films by Miklos Jancso for his centenery this year - it doesn't specifically mention home video but fingers crossed...

This is not a very good comparison since night of the living dead is an exteme cult movie that would sell a million plus copies more than love afffair. I dont care for any horror/slaser type movies but it was filmed locally from where i grew up and am very familar with Bill Cardill who was a household name growing up so i did buy it from Criterion. A better comparison would be A farewell to Arms 1932 (public domain) which Kino Lorber and bfi both released on blu ray. Why that title was released and love affair and meet john doe were never i do not know. Last edited by Cooper67; 02-14-2021 at 03:03 PM. |

I have the Imprint edition from last year, and I wonder if it’s the same master. While it looks decent, I wouldn’t have guessed it’s from a 4K master. Perhaps the materials are just in less than optimal shape... or Kino has a different master that’s better

My thinking on this is that universal was willing to give up their master for a farewll to arms eventhough it was public domain for resteration and blu ray release and warner is not willing to release their masters eventhough I have heard they have a prestine master of meet john Doe locked up in their vaults. Love affair a RKO title warner may also have the master locked away as well. Last edited by Cooper67; 02-14-2021 at 03:44 PM. |

![]() Although branded as a CULT OFTHE DAMNED Manson Family adaptation, the film ANGEL, ANGEL, DOWN WE GO is closer to a BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS expose of 1969 era Hollywood, warts and all. It's closer to THE BIG CUBE (Lana Turner and LSD) than to BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. If you like films about the excesses of Hollywood circa 1969, you might give it a try, as I think it's on sale now. I don't recall any likeable characters in it, which is kind of the point. The oddest casting choice is feminist folk singer Holly Near, who appeared in this as well as THE TOOD KILLINGS and THE MAGIC GARDEN OF STANLEY SWEETHEART. |

BarnDoor (or anyone else in the know)...couple o' questions...
Any chance Corman's The Young Racers is part of the new MGM deal? I can't remember the year breakdown for the '60s, and this is the only remaining title from MGM's The Roger Corman Collection DVD set that hasn't been upgraded to blu. Also, is the 1967 spy-fi flick Matchless with MGM? UA distributed it, but it was produced by de Laurentiis's outfit. Thanks! |

His rest of his output, mostly seafaring and western themed, was a little more uneven. There are a few gems (Two Years Before the Mast, Back From Eternity, Hondo, The Sea Chase), a few duds (The Unholy Wife, Submarine Command) and a lot in-between. For some reason though, perhaps because of the circle of actors he drew from - Alan Ladd, William Bendix, Ray Milland and the like - I find they're always comfortingly entertaining. |

I also agree that his non-noir filmography is a little more frustrating. I love My Bill (1938) starring Dickie Moore and Kay Francis— I think it's a wonderfully sweet and touching picture (and perhaps my favorite of all of his films). But then there are some disappointing films like She Loved a Fireman (1937) with Ann Sheridan, which is pretty silly and underwhelming. I haven't delved too deep into his resume, like I have, say, Wellman, Wyler, Borzage, Siodmak or La Cava, just to name a few, but I will continue to. |
