Default Reference Standard HD-DVD's ???

I plan on owning both players - Blu-Ray (Sony's) and a HD-DVD from ??.

Any recommendations on the "Best of" HD-DVD's (Reference Standard) ?

Is Toshiba the only manufacturer of the HD-DVD Player ? Anyhow, while I'm at CEDIA (starting today) I'll check out who has what and the when the players are destined for dealer shelves. I'm interested in what would make excellent HD-DVD store demo's ! Can you help ?

Jim CEDIA bound !

Best picture quality?

Training Day, Serenity, Swordfish, Aeon Flux, the two Riddick Films and Sahara off the top of my head.

Unfortuneately, yes.

You should be able to tell us more about this real soon.

You have Toshiba, RCA clones of Toshiba, HP, Lite-On, NEC (I think they're just doing PC drives and what not) and Sanyo at some point perhaps. That's it. That's all HD-DVD has.

I'll second Training Day and Swordfish. I've seen these two personally (I own Swordfish, rented TD). Both are outstanding in the video department. I don't think we can get much better PQ out of any HD disc at this point. The reviews for the Aeon Flux disc have been superb so I plan on picking that up soon.

I do have to disagree with Sahara and Pitch Black. Sahara looks good but it isn't in the same league as the others mentioned above. Pitch Black looks downright nasty in a few dark scenes.

I saw Pitch Black, Chronicles Of Riddick, both were outstanding. Serenity was also very good. Swordfish same good quality, but unlike former 3 there are not that many spectacular visuals, where hi def really shines. I still have to see Doom, probably this weekend. And trying to make myself to see Phantom In the opera.

Phantom of The Opera is very good as a demo. There is 2 new Toshiba second gen players being released in the fall. They are being shown at CEDIA. the one for 1k supports 1080p/24 and has hdmi 1.3 and supports all next gen audio codecs via hdmi.

Hello! Halle Berry in a bright red dress. Halle Berry topless. If those aren't spectacular visuals I don't know what is.

Hmm, well okay you're certainly entitled to your opinion. I think age has been quite kind to Ms. Berry.

Agreed, they just seem to need some Reebok pump action to get those things back where they probably used to be!

Phantom of the Opera is a good demo disc because the sound and video are both very good. It also appeals to the higher end customers who are the primary customers we have. Something like a bby might do better with serenity but they couldn't play training day as it would be too racy.

I get cha "The goodie two shoes" crowd. Some of our magnolia stores use the Phantom as an HDDVD demo in their theatre rooms too.
