I think it probably was! The comparison is mainly in how the films made me feel rather than any plot similarities, but I don't think it's too wild.

Tree of Knowledge was one of ten films named in Denmark's 'cultural canon' by their Ministry of Culture nearly 20 years ago, but I don't think it has ever had an international release. There's a Danish Malmros DVD box set that has English subtitles that's still pretty essential as there haven't been any new releases since. Which is a shame, he's one of the living greats.

And, indeed, the Benson / O'Conner interview was excellent! No criticism of what's on the disc; I'll have to watch those outtakes!

I was hoping they'd talk a bit more about Jeremy and I Start Counting but it was a good discussion and I realize they didn't want to go full into spoiler territory. Hope anyone that was on the fence about picking these up was pushed over to the purchase side because they would not be disappointed.

Unfortunately, QT didn't yet have our JEREMY Blu-ray. He obviously liked the film, but I think the improved transfer and the extras on the Blu would've elevated his feelings on it.

Masters of Menace was a Cinetel production New Line Cinema released in the US. However, New Line only had theatrical and I think TV rights, as RCA/Columbia held the US video rights (they did the same for other Cinetel titles such as 976-Evil). Not entirely sure if Sony still has the video rights in perpetuity, or if they reside with FilmRise (who own a good chunk of the Cinetel titles that weren't held by MGM and Sony).

Speaking of FilmRise, they have dealt with Vinegar Syndrome and have tons of other titles (many needing new transfers or have to have film elements located elsewhere) that would fit the Fun City lineup.

I really want this on BD:

It was just re-released on DVD only by Liberation Hall(?) never heard of them.

Don't know it fits the FCE criteria.

That's right. Thanks for reminding me about that. I need to watch those features myself. I took a peek at the interviews but didn't have time to finish them. I'm going to have to do that in the next day or so. As well as the commentary on I Start Counting.

I would buy that in a heartbeat. Such a terrific and underrated film. Anchor Bay at one point released a pretty good dvd edition, but it seems the rights are mess. I'm not sure who currently owns it.

Ok, Jeremy was a really naturalistic and cute movie. This movie shows how two people meet and fall for each other more naturally like in real life than 95% of most movies. It's sweet, real, and another solid gem discovered by FCE.
