There is always speculation. A June event for developers is all that is confirmed.

I didn't know how awesome my current ATV was though until recently. It's true that it isn't the BEST in some ways but it totally aces streaming services and does a good job with personal media also. It's become much better recently by the addition of 4K Disney content and 24FPS playback. All it really lacks is bitstream audio however when it converts to 7.1 PCM the results are good and the Video Quality is great and iTunes movies are inexpensive.

At this point, most people believe there will not be a March event.

I just don't want to buy one now if there's a new model anticipated in the near future. If I do buy one, it would be my first Apple hardware purchase ever.

official advice is Don't Buy

but, ... so far all the speculation has been wrong though there's more evidence all the time to suggest a new one is coming.

Now,... will the new one be somehow better ? .... totally unknown. I've heard it's better for gaming but that should make it generally better.

As a projector user ... I don't have built in APPs at all and the only 2 sources I need are my disc player and my net streamer. I couldn't love my ATV4K more...

(Unless they suddenly let you DL movies ahead of viewing .. .there's plenty of room (for a single iTunes movie) in the 64GB version and the new one is 128 at least. I won't host a streaming movie generally. Apple would be genius if they let you DL at full quality that would give the ATV4K more reason to be. )

According to blu-ray.com, the average bitrate for The Revenant is 36.91 Mbps and that is an increase of 47.64% over Movie Anywhere's average of 25 Mbps. Again, why would I want to watch a version with a substantially reduced bitrate?

My 4K disc includes the digital copy, so I actually get both, anyways. The digital copy probably looks nice and if I ever want to watch this movie when I am away from home it will suffice, but there is absolutely no reason to settle for so much less when I am at home.
It's not substantially lower. I was trying to imply that these numbers only matter to an extent. We can have 90 Mbps encodes with wonky compression and 40 Mbps with almost no compression issues. All down to the efficiency of the encoder. At some number it hits diminishing returns territory. Look at Studio Canal UHDs. Some of them have macroblocking on HDR10 layer which is the due to bit starving (under 10 Mbps). You see none of them on iTunes because thankfully the bit rates around those scenes are above 20+ Mbps. Doesn't mean streaming is superior but its worth knowing that discs do have their own issues. T

Today I received Hannibal 4K disc (Kino Lorber) and towards the end it glitches in both my player and on my drive. I have tried cleaning and it didn't help. Going to deep clean one more time, and if still glitches will contact the seller.

Update: second deep cleaning worked.

Obviously, higher bitrates will not compensate for a bad encode, nothing would, but that's not what we were talking about. The Revenant on 4K disc does not suffer from bad encoding and a 47.64% higher average bitrate IS substantial. The peak bitrates on this 4K disc go as high as 93.4 Mbps in chapter 20 and we see peaks routinely in the 70-90 Mbps range throughout its runtime; the best 4K streams peak around a mere 30 Mbps, not even remotely close to what we see with this 4K disc.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=701

These average bitrate differences of 10+ Mbps is why a 4K stream from Movies Anywhere (approx. 25 Mbps avg.) is superior to Vudu (approx. 15 Mbps avg.); it matters and it makes a noticeable difference.

I'm glad that your Hannibal 4K disc only needed a good cleaning to get it to work properly. If only fixing my flaky internet service was as easy.

Not the fault of the format, the blame with any title with artifacts should be placed at the door of the folks doing the rendering and QC of that rendering. It means someone was asleep at the controls and/or encoder parameters not set correctly or using AI to do the encode and not doing a QC of said encode.

Click here for Sirius Pixels info, lots of screen shots of various settings.

Finally watched two selections on the Hans Zimmer: Live in Prague Blu-ray, they were 6. Pirates Of The Caribbean Medley: Captain Jack Sparrow and 12. The Dark Knight Trilogy Medley: Why So Serious? The disc is much better in terms of dynamic range than the John Williams disc. The young lady playing the Yamaha Cello played with a lot of emotion.

A lot of the Dark Knight Trilogy had very low tones that contentiously shook our chairs and the room. There was a lot of light strobing so I had to turn on some lights to reduce the effect. The spouse covers her eyes in a strobed dance scene in Flashdance.

Hopefully, Godzilla Vs. Kong will get a 3D blu-ray release somewhere in the world. These kind of movies were made for 3D.

*Just had to come in here quickly as I watch KVG. The Atmos is really low and there doesn't seem much dynamic range. It's strange. Ok, I'll be back later.

Did you notice the one bright scene of the sky that showed some banding?

Otherwise it was the earliest reference 4K UHD disk what was used to demo 4K TVs with early 4K UHD players.

On a more serious note, I am torn about getting Disney+ as I really want to see some of the tv series. As it’s exclusive, I feel I have no choice. This is a huge decision as I’m betraying my principles if I go ahead. I have a lot of thinking to do.
As Vilya states, some things just aren't available on physical media if ever that are available streaming. I rather be happy seeing some additional content that I can't get from the physical media providers then be miserable. It won't cause you to like physical media any less, just the opposite that you appreciate both more.

No one was home at my place and I don't have nearby neighbors. I turned it up and it sounded good. The UHD BD will sound better, but I wanted to watch it before I came online and accidentally saw any spoilers.

I thought it was a very fun movie and certainly demo material for any theater with the epicness of it.

It was a great day to own and projector and two sub woofers.

If you really are a fan of that genre you don't procrastinate with any decisions you just watch the content, whether its a live mini-series or animated series. Mandalorian just got better and better as it progressed. The rescue episode (ch 16) was amazing.

Paused it. I have turned it up but the dynamic range is really bad. It's all bass. There's no "color" to it. Turning it up louder makes no difference if the dynamic range is crap.

The DV image does look great, though.
