Was underwhelmed. No doubt the monster action is fantastic when it’s onscreen but the human character element and story line is pure drivel.

I've seen it. I just thought the choice of music was odd given the literal horror taking place on ground level. The collateral damage seemed crazy high in this one lol.

I was kinda surprised how much this mirrored BvS. The jokes have been abundant with a "Martha" moment, and there seemed to be a non-verbal moment like that in their Hong Kong battle. But a few other things struck me:

Using
[Show spoiler]Ghidorah's head as the connection to Mechagodzilla is literally what Lex Luthor did with Zod's body to create Doomsday. This actually disappointed me the most. I really wanted Charles Dance to return and have King Ghidorah under his control. Which seriously, unless his character was killed offscreen between the two films, where the eff was he?!

Godzilla has been compared to Batman since 2014, and even in this he
[Show spoiler]is a copy of Batfleck in that he is driven to cause destruction and chaos due to several factors.

Kong essentially is Superman with his hero's journey.
[Show spoiler]But then is a hybrid of Batman with his Kryptonite spear...er I mean, glowy axe thingy.

The battles were gorgeous and so damn fun. My friends and I really enjoyed this. The score is fantastic, so I bought that instantly this morning on iTunes. Again, the human element suffers big time. The subplot with Madison, her friend, and bargain bin Anthony Anderson was honestly unnecessary. Those parts really took away from the main plot.

Kong
[Show spoiler]communicating via sign language with that little girl stole my heart. That was adorable.

The journey to and discovery of
[Show spoiler]Hollow Earth was really cool. It really ties Skull Island and KotM together with this one.

All in all, I've enjoyed these last 3 films and rank them about the same. I give it 3.5 stars but rounded up to 4 for the poll.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters - 4 stars
Godzilla vs Kong - 3.5 stars
Kong: Skull Island - 3.5 stars

Godzilla 2014 (I have WAY too many complaints about this movie) - 2 stars

Box Office: ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Debuts to Solid $9.6 Million on Opening Day

“Godzilla vs. Kong” debuted in the U.S. on Wednesday and nabbed a sizable $9.6 million, marking the best opening day total of the coronavirus era.

It has the added benefit of playing in more theaters than any other movie that has been released during the pandemic. “Godzilla vs. Kong” screened in 2,409 venues on Wednesday and will expand to 3,064 locations by Friday.

More than 94% of the U.S. marketplace has reopened, according to Warner Bros. Yet only 30% of Canadian theaters have been operating. Among the U.S. cinemas back in business, many are operating at reduced capacity, including in New York City and Los Angeles. Earlier this week, Los Angeles county was approved to the Orange Tier, which allows indoor venues to increase capacity from 25% to 50%. However, the change isn’t going into effect until Monday, April 5.

Those restraints aren’t expect to curb ticket sales, at least by pandemic standards. “Godzilla vs. Kong” should easily land the biggest domestic debut of the year — and since COVID-19 hit last March. As it stands, Warner Bros.’ “Tom and Jerry” had the biggest opening weekend of 2021 with $14 million, while “Wonder Woman 1984” holds the biggest opening weekend of the pandemic with $16.7 million. However, those figures represent ticket sales between Friday and Sunday.

“Godzilla vs. Kong” was initially expected to gross north of $20 million over the extended weekend, but it currently looks to smash that benchmark.

The film secured an “A” CinemaScore from audiences, which could bode well for its big-screen run.

Very smart to release it when they did. Since it's going to be the only game in town for a little while. Hopefully it's performance will give studios some confidence.

I think this is exactly what the studios needed to see in order to stop delaying their movies out of fear. This is the turning point.

Disney's probably kicking themselves for pushing back Black Widow now.

Godzilla vs Kong will likely surpass KOTM at the worldwide box-office by mid April.

And this is while most Regal theaters are still closed. It probably could've made even more if they had all opened.

[Show spoiler]A flask of whiskey thrown onto a keyboard by a teenager destroyed Mechagodzilla instead of either Kong or Godzilla. WTF!?!?

also

[Show spoiler]The whiskey shorted out Mechagodzilla, preventing him from fighting, but, his lights were still on and he was still capable of walking....really?

even though

[Show spoiler]Mechagodzilla was, by that point, no longer linked to the computer and was completely autonomous

It was put to very heroic, uplifting music by Junkie XL. Such a bizarre scene.
that's the nature of movies like this i'd say.

What I am curious about is
[Show spoiler]to see how Mechagodzilla operates if you were to replace Kong with Mechagodzilla in the first Kong vs Godzilla confrontation. Would Mechagodzilla still be operational underwater?

Wasn't
[Show spoiler]the satellite uplink/psionic Ghidorah energy already destroyed by that point? Wasn't he rendered autonomous by the experimental hollow earth sample?

Have no problem turning off my brain, and I can roll with just about any level of BS, but, the BS has to at least be consistent with the previously existing BS you've already set up LOL

Well it's a good thing
[Show spoiler]autonomous Mecha's swipe didn't reach any further into that control room, because he would have taken out that computer and himself along with it

Didn't even think about that one.

Neither did the writers lmao. Maybe it would have been better if they were inside MK and poured the whisky down his dumb robot throat?
