I personally found Cranston to be the MVP of Godzilla. A shame they killed off the best actor they had in it. Potential squandered if I've ever seen it.

All the characters have the skills they need in the moment.

Dr. Nathan Lind:
A Monarch geologist and chief cartographer.
Nothing says that he is a pilot and mechanic.

He was right about the sky falling, but was so far out of his element. The only reason he existed was to get Ken Watanabe to realize there was some sort of communication going on. What else could his character accomplish?

Sure...his brother was a pilot..and we're using Pacific Rim Rules in this universe

Cranston was fine until they killed him off 40 minutes in and replaced him with dull af Taylor-Johnson being the convenient vehicle to push the plot forward. The movie did a total 180 and didn't pick up until the final 15 minutes.

Killing off Cranston is the best way they have shown any real stakes in the entire universe! lol. And it was because they pissed off MUTO, and nothing to do with Godzilla

OMG, that's hysterical! I was so confused why that was credited, but now it makes sense! That's exactly what I thought of when I saw him do that!

I was wondering why that credit was there. Thought maybe I'd missed it playing on a TV somewhere in the film.

I didn't mind Cranston's character, but I also didn't care for the son. But then again I find Aaron Taylor-Johnson a bland actor to begin with.

Couple things I found in IMDB's trivia section that I thought were interesting:

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
A seconds prior to Mechagodzilla escape of Apex's laboratory in Hong Kong it can be seen a shot of the laboratory with a rising sun and an aligned moon. This alignment is the same of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), when the rising sun and an aligned moon activated the monolith to bring apes intelligence.

Quote:
The giant Skullcrawler in the Apex site is larger by far than the 'Big One' in Kong: Skull Island (2017).

They could've cut MechaG from this and have this one a real GvK battle. The story would be better fleshed out and live up to the movie title. They pulled a BvS.

The whole MG subplot can be gone and more room to breathe for G or K story.

Btw, did Kong live in the Hollow Earth in the past? Alone? How did he escape?

Why? They already fought twice. The fight scenes in this are so much better than BvS that it's not even comparable

I dont think so, I'm assuming he was born and raised on Skull Island, based on the skeletons in that movie.

Apart from cool loud fights, it's horrible really. I know this is a "turn off your brain", mindless film, but still, I need some kind of story or characters to follow.

Just some random thoughts.

Two teens and a podcaster sneak around two of the most advanced labs on the planet just minding their own business. MBB doesn't need to be there. The other teen is the "oh man, this is bad idea" comedy relief.

[Show spoiler]Lance Reddick who is like... the fourth name on the credits is in the film for ONE SHOT, ONE LINE OF DIALOGUE lasting around 5 seconds.

Kyle Chandler is just there, doing hardly anything.

The plot is paper-thin, no characters are interesting. It's obvious Zilla and Kong will team up and become equals. Basically, whenever monsters aren't fighting it's rubbish, and though the fights were cool they are the basic marvel-esque cookie cutter scenes.

I know people dunk on Zilla 2014 but it's a much better film. Build up to see Godzilla, some really nice cinematography and visuals. Godzilla felt badass, powerful and scary.

And it felt more believable. These other films go way too far with the technology, these companies with more money and power than God himself doing all this stupid stuff. An alien may have just landed and started fighting along side them.

I did feel bad for Kong (not seen his separate films. So at least he was well done.

I wouldn't mind them fighting 3 rounds? Best of two?

Also, they could've kept
[Show spoiler]MechaG
for a sequel where G and V teams up to fight
[Show spoiler]MechaG
. I'd rather have a full 2 hours movie with that plot then a 15 min. squeeze in scene of
[Show spoiler]G+KvMG
at the end of this one.

The whole plot for Godzilla kinda centered
[Show spoiler]on Apex making MechaG though
...take it out and you have to re-write the entire movie.

For your second question, I believe Kong is more of a "last of his kind", and his species lived in the hollow earth before migrating

When they talk about this being a "turn off your brain" movie clearly they are talking about the writers. A group of stoners watching WWE while they throw out random ideas could come up with a better script.
