Consoles aren't going anywhere. They're a fixture of the gaming market. There will always be a new console and a new reason for a new console. I keep reading all this crap about graphics becoming obsolete... what in the hell are you talking about? I'm waiting for my holodeck gaming room. I don't see that anytime soon so spare me the graphics have no where to go crap.

Resolutions will get higher, processors will get faster, new gametypes are going to become available for new gaming genres... It's an ever growing, ever evolving market and I predict like the many generations before it will never stop!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

yeah i never understood the graphics argument. people act like ps3 graphics can never be improved upon. and if they could, they couldn't be improved enough to need a ps4.

hogwash is all i have to say.

the uncanny valley has yet to be hurdled...also...the time will be here, when, you..as a person, will be in the game..your likeness..your "real" face. Actors will be acting for video games...we are not there yet.

...Unless the next Xbox is a total fraud, basically just a next-gen-sounding name for the latest sku of 360, (which is highly likely). The systems are not equal now, why would a nudge in the capability of Xbox force Sony to produce a new generation of PS? PS3 didn't force MS to make a next-gen console, they just added a few bells & whistles to the 360. Surely, nobody thinks that bringing Wii up to the HD standard will force a new console out of MS or Sony, do they? The three consoles are clearly working different strategies, their release dates are not as tied to each other as they may have been in the past.
Using the trajectory of the previous generation to predict this one is folly: totally different conditions exist. Besides a serious worldwide recession slowing down everyone's plans, there's the fact that there has been a major format shift in North American television in the last few years, from 4:3 to 16:9 HD. You'd have to be dense not to see that as a major market factor pushing the demand for our current generation of consoles. There is no such shift on the horizon now. That's the core of the "graphics argument" that Xtop just scoffed at: without major upgrades in the TV display standard, it's going to be next to impossible to convince the market that they need better graphics than what they can get with a PS3.
As for the "need to keep up with the PC" argument: that has never mattered. They're totally different worlds. Gaming consoles have inferior capabilities to gaming PC's at the time of launch. Consoles sell on price and convenience, ($300-$500 versus $2000-$3000 is a no-brainer if the only thing you use your PC for is gaming; attempting (and failing) to compete with PC was supposed to be a revolutionary concept with Xbox; plus, in the past it was a selling point that your console hooks right up to your TV and didn't need a dedicated monitor... that's a big one, from the early days a console has been sold as a TV accessory, while a computer is a stand-alone device, and that paradigm is a tough one to shake off).

Xbox is going to continue to advance by creeps, not leaps. Wii already needs to play catch-up or dream up yet another gimmick. Don't expect a PS4 any time soon, 2013 doesn't sound unlikely at all.

all the Wii2 needs is HD and an upgrade with the motion controls...

then they can HD Remix all the classics and double dip that way...

can you say Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time...all in HD?....I personally would be a sucker for all of that..

Despite gaming being somewhat ression resistant come back with all new boxes
and say thanks for buying but all that stuff is crap now start over won't go over
well. Sony broke the cardinal rule when pricing ps3. $599 and $499 when it
should've been $499 and $399. I know ps3 is a great system but anything after
$399 and people start to shy off, especially now.

Despite having a ps3 i still get j-rpg's and other ps2 only games on ps2.

If the new jack game uses resistances alternate control scheme i'll get it otherwise i'll get the ps2 version.

I'm never wishing for the next box after i get the latest box i always can wait
more than 10 years -games matter and even now ps2 has a better selection than ps3. Ps3 needs more lbp original idea's not as many shooters.
