I'm going to hold onto my HD DVDs as they're a video oddity for me not unlike Beta or CED at this point. I also like to think of them as the final refinement of the standard DVD. Just like Ultra HD Blu-ray is the current and possibly final refinement of the BD. That said, I will get rid of the BDs in favor of the UHDs.

In general, I think you are going to find most near 80 year old guy's want to spend as much time with their family, rather than spending hour's working on a commentary.

I can understand not wanting do a commentary. An interview would be nice.

These labels help keep their movies alive, but the top people seem usually decline.

It's a shame Cronenberg was never able to get his sequel off the ground and now Focus are planning on making it without him and Viggo as a Jason Statham film.

Down to budgetary reasons apparently.

Focus Features couldn’t agree on a budget, basically. I thought it was a very ambitious script and I wanted to do it properly and they really felt the financial restraints of the world in general. It was a really budget disagreement. As far as I’m concerned I’m not involved anymore.

His current responsibility is shooting Crimes of the Future in Greece in August with Viggo, Kristen Stewart for NEON. Cronenberg has been more of an actor the past few years with Alias Grace, Star Trek Discovery, Falling, Disappearance at Clifton Hill as filmmaking projects have struggled to get off the ground. The same thing happened with Sydney Pollack later in his career.

He did a commentary in the last few years for Shivers though and I believe he was supposed to make his debut convention appearance last year had it not been for COVID. So he seems to still like talking about his movies for sure.

I mostly upgrade if I feel like rewatching, it's a substantial upgrade (especially from DVDs) or there's some new extras.

I think Cronenberg's first film to shoot in the US was Maps to the Stars. New York in Cosmopolis was a green screen soundstage with cutout car windows, and though The Fly was Fox it was shot in Toronto. I think Cronenberg has mainly stuck to Montreal and Toronto in addition to the odd UK production.

I don’t have non-U.S. numbers but VALKYRIE earned $28 mil from domestic home video sales, while EASTERN PROMISES cleared slightly under half of that, $13.7. Even using your argument that 4K customers are cut from a different kind of cloth (and if you look at any number of wtf titles that have made it to the format, it’s clear that studios pretty much en masse don’t see that to be the case), the economics still can’t be upended enough by that to justify VALKYRIE being dropped from consideration as a no-profit risk (the sex offender thing is more understandable, but in a world where the X-MEN films are presently being given all new premium Steelbook makeovers, that one doesn’t stick the landing for me, either).

Viggo was great here, because it's an understated performance he had a harder job. The ending surprised me.

I guess there's two years until the 15th anniversary, so maybe then?
