For some reason, every time I watch Tarantino talk I think of Code Red's Bill Olsen. I guess it's because both have similar backgrounds. Well, Olsen owned a video store while Tarantino just worked in one. Bill is always bragging about his Hollywood 'acquaintances' so I wonder if he ever got a chance to make a movie and decided to pass. Missed opportunity for greatness.

It could be amazing, but he seems more interested in the theatrical experience like the theater he owns, so I'd see seem doubling-down on that versus looking back at physical media. That and he's spoken of doing that western TV series and so forth. We'll see what happens!

This is practically a scene-for-scene remake of the original. Both versions are a lot of fun. I'm all for anything that finally gets us a decent release of the Samantha Eggar version.

His commentaries all have one thing in common: He did not direct any of the movies he has commentaried on. Seems happy to talk about other people's films, just not his own. I guess one could argue he "co-directed" Sin City, but that was just one long scene really. Great scene, but just one.

Very small update on this on the latest Tarantino and Avery podcast:
QT want these releases to be a film-on-disc presentation, meaning struck from a print -- warts, cigarette burns and all -- versus a new scan from the best elements. Keeping, in his words, the "the glory of emulsion; glory of grain." Sony execs stated they could do that -- but "a bold, bold choice" in regards to what consumers want in terms of restorations and the collector's market. -- Still kinda unclear if this still going forward. |

I know I'm the minority in loving releases with print damage and cigarette burns intact as it adds character to the film. But, knowing we could have had The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun (1970) on disc by now, plus countless other grindhouse fare, on the absence of this alone, makes me livid. What a stupid hill to die on.
