That's always surprised me, as QT's three biggest loves seem to be a) cinema, b) cocaine, and c) listening to himself talk. That's the perfect recipe for an interesting commentary (just ask Abel Ferrara).

Ferrara's original commentary for The Driller Killer is bliss.

Probably, it’s just nice to have early Ferrara all in one place so you know where he came from, even if the shorts are of variable quality. Could This Be Love? is the most substantial in length, but I enjoyed The Hold Up as a black and white heist.

He has no problem at all with commentary tracks, he just doesn't want them on the movies he directs. The same way he is fond of documentaries about filmmaking but is very cautious about behind the scenes stuff on his own films. I don't think he wants people peeking behind the curtain on his own stuff, he wants to retain some mystique.

His commentaries all have one thing in common: He did not direct any of the movies he has commentaried on. Seems happy to talk about other people's films, just not his own. I guess one could argue he "co-directed" Sin City, but that was just one long scene really. Great scene, but just one.
