Looks like John posted what might be his final impressions on OLED models this year. Both are great sets and you can't go wrong with either but he nudges towards Sony the same as Vincent and DeWayne (DNice).
"I took a 65A90J home from the store yesterday and after watching the LG as my main TV, i have to say the Sony does have a better picture overall in my opinion. Although it comes out of black a little too fast in some scenes, it's noticeably brighter in full screen SDR and the HDR and DV is as Vincent says, more impactful. It just looks more real. Since the set is new i just left the factory calibration, no "special" settings, no tweaks, Just set the brightness and motion and it looks great! To date i haven't found any A90J having a calibration issue from the factory. They are all pretty accurate from the factory. Calibration will make it perfect and if you prefer a different white point you can change that as well but i'm pretty surprised how consistent every set is so far. As with all the 65 inch A90Js there is very slight vignetting and some slight magenta tint either on the left and or the right at 5% and lower but i have to say it's really hard to see it with content. I couldn't see it with some very dark content unless i paused the scene and started looking. But i have to say the 100% white is near perfect. Exceptionally clean and that's where you normally see tinting and some banding on fast motion content like with hockey. Also i feel if Vincent didn't point out the near black issue most wouldn't have noticed it since you really need a reference to see it. I feel the black crush on the LG is a far worse problem. Vincent's video did point out that the Sony did track closest to the reference monitor which is something we needed to know. Vincent's video revealed a lot of interesting information on these sets. I was going to go with the G1 but it can't produce the same PQ in my opinion even though on paper i can calibrate it more accurately than the A90J. At the end of the day it's what our eyes see which determines what looks best to each of us." |

It was about $300 extra from purchasing the TV. Of course I got a great deal on the C9 right before they stopped production on them. I know that still sounds like a lot, but it was well worth it. I don't have to worry about anything. I even got the settings from the calibrator/seller just in case the TV would reset on me. I'm very pleased with the results and again, I don't have to worry about anything. I can sit back and enjoy my TV!

I know that with front projektors kalibrations are performed more often than with flat panel TVs, because of video deviations. What is a reasonable average time to professionally rekalibrate the piktures of flat panel OLED TVs?

I think it's due to the factory where these are produced.

There are two factories where LG Display produces OLED panels: Guangzhou and Paju. The EVO panels for the G1 are produced in the Guangzhou factory while panels for the C1 can come from either Guangzhou or Paju. Hence if you have a C1 with a panel from the Guangzhou factory you can go into the service menu and change the EDID to that of a G1 to get increased brightness.

LG Display made a design/manufacturing change to the panels with the addition of a "green layer". It's my understanding that this new addition can result in a pinkish tint, but only when viewed off angle. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
