Default Pioneer Elite question

I just got my Pro-111FD a few weeks ago. One thing I've noticed is that when the TV is on, but there is no video signal (e.g. my PS3 is off, or during a menu change), the screen is not uniformly black, but rather certain areas are splotchy ... like a dark cloudy night. Once I power on my PS3 and watch a movie in 2.40:1 aspect ratio, the black bars are uniformly black.

I was only able to notice this when I powered on my TV in the dark, but hadn't turn on the PS3.

I'm just wondering if this is normal, and will it eventually go away? It doesn't affect my viewing, but I want to make sure that I don't have a defective TV.

This will probably go away after the first 200 hours.

Does it do that every time you turn it on?

I've noticed similar patterns on my 5020 every once in a while, but not every time I turn it on. The first time it happened, I was kinda scared, so I ran the scrolling white bar, but couldn't reproduce it there either.

My best guess it that it has to do with heat dispersion when the TV first turns on; the parts that are cooler will appear darker, and vice versa, until a feed is sent to the panel to display proper black.

You wouldve thought it takes longer than 20 minutes for him to test it on all 26 of his Kuro's. You're averaging a test in under a minute!!

^^^ yes your right on the money! Sorry I didn't see the Q. by the OP about breaking it down.

It's the the display not warmed up yet, which takes a few seconds. It should not do it if you have been watching/using the display & turn it off then right back on, cause the "screen" is still warmed up. If the picture is blotchey when it's in use then you have a problem.

Nice of everyone to jump all over me, thanks...

You're our beloved Pioneer guru!

The long and short of it, is that it is in no way harmful, or a defect. It simply has to do with screen temperature. So, everyone now go back to gawking at your Pio's and loving them so tenderly.

Just for clarification, the splotchiness is visible no matter how long the TV is on, but ONLY when there is no input source, or during menu changes.

It is not visible during actual movie playing.

It should "clear" within a few seconds, but if the picture is fine your 111FD is fine. When your watching a movie with a black back ground do you see any of the blotchey-ness like you do when you have NO signal? If not your good to go.

Mine does that also but dissapeares after a few seconds. I called pioneer and they did say it's the panel warming up. It's normal and sometimes effects people in higher altitudes more. I live in Colorado so that could be why. When i asked The pioneer rep if I needed to do a break in process he said it is not needed but he did say I should avoid the performance mode for the first 200 hours and that would be a good enough break in. Of course I had all ready broken my TV in. So it's just normal for these tvs as long as it goes away right away.
