Nice is too nice a word to describe these beauties...

Mind if I all over your thread?

And to add...I down to Mr. Ken Ishiwata once again The man is almost single-handledly responsible for the resurgence of this terrific brand name.

It looks nice. But, I have no interest, and I highly doubt that it will perform better than my present modified equipment.

Hey Rich,

Probably not, but I'll bet they still sound wonderful.

I was in an "open-by-appointment only" HT dealer here in my home town last week. The door was open, so I just walked in. Anyway, the guy was really pleasant and let me linger for a bit. I immediately noticed the Marantz Reference Line of equipment, along with several Martin Logan's. One of the rooms had a Marantz SC-11S1 Power amp, Marantz SM-11S1 Preamp, Marantz SA-11S2 SACD/CD player connected to some ML Spires (yes, Rich's new babies). I gotta tell you Rich, this system blew me away. I listened briefly to DSOTM and Jazz At The Pawnshop, after which I offered him my first-born. . My only regret was that no Turntable was available. When I asked him he matter of factly told me that his customer base wasn't the type of clientele to mess with vinyl. They want upper-end gear and convenience. How sad really as they don't know what they are missing.

John

PS: How's the new TT rig? Still spinning feverishly?

Thanks for the info John. Marantz has been making real headway in returning to top quality as you know for the last 8 or so years as you know.

I don't want to make you jealous, but the Turntable is great at this point. I have to get comfortable with a good combination of cleaning methods to clean up my vinyl collection so that I can put it into use. The Turntable is a dream and pleasure to use. I have posted about it over at Audiogon and have spoken with Chris Brady of Teres a few times in the past week with questions. But, I feel so fortunate to have one of the best and best sounding and performing turntables in the state of Pennsylvania.

I have to say, I love the new aesthetic direction Marantz took with their XX03 receivers and now this player. But I must confess, only 500 units? That'll be a lot of dead presidents to fork over!

I have really been impressed with Marantz lately. I recently decided to "upgrade" my marantz SACD player to an Esoteric after an audition that I thought was very good. Mistake on my part. I made the one cardinal error of NOT auditioning it with my gear. The Esoteric while good, was simply too clinical and sterile sounding. I can't describe it, but it felt too clean if that makes sense. It was just different, not worse, but different. I preferred the fuller bodied sound of Marantz. I have decided to not sell the marantz player I had for sale, and instead trade in the esoteric player as it did not mate well with my gear at all.

I'm not in a position to upgrade as of yet, still putting some cash together for my previously planned Marantz TT-15S1 Turntable, but if I were....I'd definately take a serious look at their Reference Line of products.

Having now personally auditioned them I am very impressed as well. It doesn't hurt that I like the aesthetics of the design as well, as they have that kind-of-retro look about them, which really appeals to me. The reviews I've read so far all point to a positive opinion, and that certainly bodes well for them.

You should hear what they (the Spires) do with a vinyl source!

Talking of which, do you have any plans to visit your familiy in Alberta soon? If so, we should try to plan a Kelowna rendezvous!

The Marantz player is a beautiful machine. I have owned many Marantz products (receiver, cassette player, turntable, CD player) over the years. I just bought the new Oppo BD/SACD/DVD-A player. I already own another three SACD/DVD-A players. Do I really need another gadget?

After the Upgrade Company gets their hands on it, it will slay giants and crush your enemies. You will see them driven before you, while you hear the lamentations of their women.

You heard it here first.
