I definitely think CD's reputation was hurt by the loudness war, which started in the '90s and has lasted ever since (though thankfully it's been moving in the right direction after peaking in the mid-'00s). And something I see fairly often is that they'll go out of their way to make the vinyl edition sound better than the CD edition of the same album. Much more dynamic and less compressed.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the capabilities of the formats themselves, though, as you point out. CD can shine and surpass vinyl when it's allowed to, and not handicapped by poorly mastered music.

Eh, at the very least, we'll probably see a listing for 5 pop up as well, considering it usually follows close behind 4 (probably since it's the same rights holders, Trancas International).
I don't see a new box set coming up anytime soon, mainly because of the current ownership of the remaining films. Not to mention that if a set were in the works, I'm sure we'd have just one listing, instead of one for each movie.

That said, I'm expecting to see a listing for 5 come up. If SF went through the trouble to get the rights from Trancas for Halloween 1 and 4 (since Lionsgate isn't going to do it), I'd imagine they'd do 5 as well. Even though 5 isn't one of the most well liked of the series, they would already have a number of extras from the box set ready to go.

Good grief that Miramax catalog deal is confusing, lol. Some at Paramount, some at Lionsgate, red fish, blue fish, yadda yadda.

Titles under the Miramax banner are exclusively with Paramount now. The two Rob Zombie films were released under 'The Weinstein Company,' which is why they're now with Lionsgate.

Don't get me wrong, CD is a excellent format but still.
There's heaps of studies and tests on vinyl vs CDs, and the fact is CD is the superior format, capable of delivering higher-quality audio. Often vinyl sounded better because the mastering was better for the vinyl version, before the loudness wars destroyed a generation of CD masters. Vinyl can tend to have more "warmth" and many love that. That isn't to say vinyl is a poor format - I love vinyl myself, and it's far superior to crappy lossy streaming formats. I just bought a couple vintage albums last month to transfer to digital for myself. But I acknowledge that CD is superior.

Gotcha, that makes more sense... Not sure why I kept thinking Miramax for those two. Granted, TWC was basically trying to be the spiritual successor to Miramax, so I guess my brain crossed the wires.

I mention streaming and revenue share because your posts come across like vinyl is this huge thing with a resurgence of mainstream popularity and it very much is not. It's a niche of a niche, a drop in an ocean. I'm saying yes we can easily have that kind of market for movies on disc too, but companies wanting streaming exclusives might get in the way of that.

Based upon the last set, Shout could work out a deal with Lantern Entertainment who owns TWC’s library. Lionsgate is still acting as the home entertainment distributor while they finish out their previous contract with TWC.

Exactly. I can imagine Disney announcing someday in the future that Disney+ is THE only way to access their movies now. No more DVDs, no more Blu-rays and UHDs, no more iTunes or other PVOD platforms. Only Disney+.

If that’s the case, then I hope Shout does something because I’d love a UHD release of the second Rob Zombie film.

It might be tough for Shout to get Halloween 6, H20 and Resurrection. I don't think Paramount licenses out titles for 4K UHD release. Only blu-ray- unless something changed?

Paramount has stopped licensing out their titles now that they’ve gotten a new home video division.

I’m honestly kind of surprised the F13 set is still around.

As of right now, they haven't licensed any Miramax films. Shout might have went around Paramount to Miramax (if possible), they were blocked (most likely), or perhaps something else different happened. We don't know the state of the Miramax 3 Halloween films on UHD yet.

I’d love to get a UHD of H6. I’d want it to include both cuts, all previous special features, all deleted scenes in HD, and a Joe Chappelle commentary (which isn’t likely).

The good news is is that Paramount is now starting to do UHD titles for Miramax films which will be a game changer for the film's library (after years of having to endure the reissues of the Echo Bridge editions) and if 1-4 are big sellers (and they will be), Paramount/Miramax will likely follow that up with 6-8.

Maybe we can finally get a home video release of The Faculty that doesn’t treat it like a bargain bin film.

That would be great! I would take a remastered Blu ray. I just watched the old Blu ray for the first time, it looks very badly processed (mediocre by Echo Bridge standards).
