Default Is this smaller TV better then going bigger?

My problem:
I have been trying to purchase a new TV for months but I can't get myself to pull the trigger. I keep looking at all the models and asking questions on this forum. My TV shut down a few weeks ago and I need one but still have not been able to put down the $$$. I am just afraid that I will screw up and get something I am not happy with.

The scenario:
Because of TWF the TV has to go into a cabinet. After redoing the inside of the cabinet, the max width inside is 52 inches.

This means I can get into the cabinet the Samsung LEDs--the 6000, 7000, and the 8000. The 55B650 will fit but the B950 is too wide and will not fit.

Any 52" LCD would fit but why go smaller if not necessary.
The new Panasonic 55V10 would fit, when they arrive sometime in June.

The new LG 55 LEDs are too wide
The Sony 55 is too wide

Here is why I am starting this thread:
I was at BB and they offered me an amazing deal on a Pioneer 50 Kuro 111FD but a 50" plasma seems to be small when I can get a bigger unit into the cabinet and as everyone knows ever guy wants to go bigger never smaller.

But is the KURO that much better then the above mentioned TVs that a smaller TV would out weigh a larger one?

Help me on this. As a reference point, I set 14 feet from the TV. Would love to get a 60" but no can do.

.

Normally I always say "go as big as possible" but the difference in a 52" and 50" isn't that great, and

1) you said you were getting a great deal

and

2) I would get a plasma over a LCD in most cases (ESPECIALLY when we're talking about a kuro!!!!) (and I have no Plasma displays, and two LCDs, so my opinion isn't overly biased based on what equipment I own)

Get the Kuro..... I think it's the best of the ones you're looking at, and you said it yourself, it's a "Deal"

That is what I have been thinking or I would not have wasted time typing out such a long thread.

I think it is a great deal. $2400 for the Elite plus split the ISF costs of $250.00

Thanks

Shiat....why are you still here...go get it! Your paying $100 less than me and I got it a few months back...given the lack of supplies on Kuro Elites & Non-Elites this is a kick-a$$ deal!

Kuro over everything...nuff said!

Like the other posters said, you're not going to notice much of a difference in 2". But you will love the difference in the PQ that Kuro gives over the others.

Will the 55 inch samsung 6000/7000/8000 fit in the cabinet? You said the 55b650 would...I'd go with the 55 samsung leds if possible if you want to go that big. Otherwise I'd say go with the Pioneer Kuro. 50 to 52'' isn't that much difference.

Yes the 6000, 7000, 8000 will fit right in.

The LED's screen sizes are 47.5 wide by 27 high

Were as the Kuro's screen size is 43.5 wide by 24.5 high

I lose 4 inches wide and 2.5 high by going Kuro. A man hates losing 4 inches.

Get the samsung led lcd...the black levels are great. Its almost comparable to the kuros imo. I do suggest you have it calibrated though/adjust the settings. I'd recommend the 6000 series...the 7000/8000 don't seem to justify the price difference imo. I found a few complaints on these tvs and seemed it was more of a setting issue (mostly on the 7000/8000 models). I had my friend adjust the settings after I got it and no problems whatsoever...full calibration after its broke in. I've got pictures in my ht forum of the 55 un55b6000 if you want to see what it looks like wall mounted.

I think Beta has given you the answer you need. Go for the 50", since you're getting a good deal, unless you can take an axe to the cabinet. ;o)

If you want the best, you already found it for $2,400. The 111FD is the best. If you don't mind not having the best, then get an LED-LCD...

Would have to wholeheartedly agree that 2" less of picture pales in comparison to the picture quality gains of the Pioneer Kuro. The Pioneer Kuro Elite line is the consummate reference level television.

Check to make sure that with the side speakers attached, it will still fit, though!

I think you pretty much have your answer. If you want a new set today, I'd go for the Kuro. To go bigger, I'd hold out for the 54" V10. The picture should be as close to the Kuro as you'll be able to get. You sure a 58" 800U won't fit? I've got a 58" 75U, and the width on it is 50.6", so it would fit.

I don't think it would fit with the speakers, but he could just remove them and use his surround speakers.

Here's the biggest problem I see in your entire post. You sit too far from the TV. At that distance, you're only going to see a marginal improvement over 480p, even with a 60" TV. See this post: http://www.carltonbale.com/2006/11/1080p-does-matter/

Hardly...

That chart is only to be used as a reference point. While I might agree that you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p, 480p is a completely different animal.

14 feet is a long way off. That is why the 50" Kuro is still sitting at BB. I will be going to take a look at it again this morning but because of my sitting distance from the TV everything in me says to get as big as possible.

I understand your original question. Is the picture quality of an Elite worth sacrificing 5" over the picture quality of a Samsung LED, sitting 14' away? I say yes.

What are you smoking? There would be a significant difference over 480p with a 60" television.
