All the releases with a vinyl do, they're packaged exactly like their previous release of Big Trouble in Little China. A box that holds the movie and the record.

That's what I was wondering. Shouldn't the original colour timing be the main event? I mean, isn't that what we're supposed to strive for with UHD? Very odd.

That's what we're confused about. What is shout referring to as the "original color timing" exactly?

I remember reading that test screenings were held early in 2020 for Halloween Kills, before the pandemic kicked in. The screenings went very well, and naturally people went onto Reddit and posted every thing they could remember from start to finish. Unsure how much has changed, if any, from those test screenings though, since the pandemic delayed the original release by a year they could have made some changes post test screenings.

The DVD's started coming out over 20 years ago. Then there's the old DVD boxset and the Blu Ray boxset. I'm surprised fans are wanting this on 4K in such a shabby form. If you get it HooRah soldier I was actually happy with the boxset of this series on DVD all in all. The 4K release of this film just turned me off of buying any more. Overly dark and old films on cheap film stock just don't translate well to 4K/HDR especially. I'm happy for the fans but I don't see how this is a step up.

None of them sound like they're reviewing the feeble, anemic appearance of the Lionsgate UHD.

I'd be happy with what HALLOWEEN basically looked like in most home video formats before that release. Here's hoping he rethinks it, or has a new pair of glasses!
I don't like the Lionsgate 4K release. As you said it has an anemic appearance. It's too dark and washed out. I'm hoping this new 4K transfer isn't as dark and has more saturated colors.

I do admit I always liked the THX DVD with the warmer colors but it wasn't how the movie originally looked. A new 4K less washed out than the Lionsgate 4K will be much better.

How do old films not translate well to 4K? Regardless of how cheaply they are made, it has to do with how the materials used have been treated over the years and their condition, the care and attention those making transfers/restorations of such films put into them, and how the disc is made. It has nothing to do with how cheaply the film was made, unless it was shot on a medium inherently lower than the equivalent of digital 4K resolution, the negative for 1978's Halloween was 35mm which translates to 4K in digital resolution.

I don't think so. I put all 5 of the Halloween 4Ks in my cart and it estimated $5 shipping in the US.

$5 shipping isn't bad considering how much cheaper they have them listed.

"Cheap film stock"? HALLOWEEN was shot on the same 35mm film stock as any other film made during its era regardless of budget, and in anamorphic (i.e. the largest frame possible in standard 35mm), to boot. There was no such thing as bargain "cheap film stock". The closest would be movies shot on "short ends", which is left-over filmstock from other productions, but even that film is still the exact same filmstock, it's just being bought second-hand and in odd lengths.

Well, I got my order placed. SF using rigid slipcases instead of slipcovers kinda messes with my plans to put the slipcovers over the cases in my box set, but it's probably for the best. I planned on keeping the slips for the original releases of 2 and 3 on those cases, so at least it doesn't mess up the theme the new artworks are going for.

Wow. I guess they figure DVD collectors are the ones with the more refined taste.
I think that confirms that Lionsgate no longer has the rights to the Halloween films, and that Scream Factory licensed them from Trancas.

I work in a store that sells DVDs and Blu-Rays, and the Halloween DVD still sells pretty well, especially in the fall (naturally). It makes sense for SF to keep that option available for customers if they're now the only distributor of the film.

That's not the same scenario. Paramount apparently isn't licensing out their films anymore, and even before that, they weren't licensing out UHD rights.

If UHDs come out for any of the Friday the 13th films, it'll be from Paramount.

That'll depend on whether Blumhouse and Universal keep making more Halloween films after Ends comes out. As long as the series keeps making money, they'll keep making films (even if they don't continue the same storyline; it wouldn't be the first time this series has done that).

That said, it was kind of a splash of cold water to the face going through the anemic extras on the Halloween 2018 disc, compared to what each of the individual films had in the box set. So I'd be down for Collector's Editions of those (assuming the sequels have the same amount of effort put in the extras as the first one did).

I think it's on the person doing the work.
How is that JAWS looks great but not all 1975 movies on bluray or 4k do?

Is it confirmed that these are amaray cases with slips? The title shows on top of the case in the mock-ups.

It could be side loading sleeves, or it could also be some sort of digipak.

They're confirmed to be rigid slipboxes, close to what was used on their Creepshow release I'd imagine. They have also posted promo art on facebook of amaray cases.
