Prime Video does have better AV quality than Netflix, and when Netflix does animation, they turn the bitrate way down.

That's a nice looking set and I would be happy if the US version looked pretty close to it for a similar price - even if some technical features aren't what I wanted (but are about what I expected).

An instrumental version of FMTTM was missing in last month's Italian cinema screening of Evangelion: Death (True)2/The End of Evangelion.

I don't like the look of this. Hope GKIDS comes through.

Love that Korean set, though. I hope the US release is half that nice.

For those of who are wondering; no english sub/dub.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Anime Limited end up doing something pretty similar with their Ultimate Edition (which GKIDS would ideally port over.) As for “Fly Me to the Moon” not being included, I wouldn’t take this as any sort of confirmation the US/UK releases won’t have it.

You're probably paying top gold for this (ugly) replica of the spear of Longinus.

Very likely.

Then again I thought the same thing about Change the World on VIZ's InuYasha Blu-ray sets and here we are. Anything is possible.

Welcome to the new area!

It's like the 1997 Special Editions of Star Wars Original Trilogy. Eventually, we will all just accept it.

Is VHS copies still the only way to watch the unedited original Star Wars trilogy?

Laserdisc is better. The 1993 CAV Box and 1995 CLV stand-alone releases are the last versions on LD supervised by THX and are what’s on the VHS releases, but the best versions are actually the late 80s Japanese CAV box sets dubbed the “Special Collection” releases. They are full CAV, have great audio, and most importantly don’t have the DNR and smearing of the THX masters. These were ported over here on LD as the first Letterboxed versions on LD here, but they’re CLV and some have framing issues from the removed Japanese subtitles.

Still, if you see any version of Star Wars (non-special edition) on LD or VHS, snap it up.

I also suggest watching this excellent video by the good captainsolo;

Any release before 1997 should be fine in terms of visuals, aside from the "New Hope" subtitle for Star Wars, which was added in 1981.

As for audio, here's some snippets from an upcoming project I'm working on:

Star Wars:
The original original audio track is confirmed to be included on these releases:
Unlike the first movie, Empire and Jedi are more or less the same throughout their various mixes, but if you're looking for the original original mixes, they are confirmed to be included on these releases:

Empire:
Jedi:

Maybe it's different between the states and Germany, but I always thought that Netflix has a much better encoding and Dolby Vision, which would've been wonderful for Evangelion, imo.

Who accepts the Special Editions?

Anyway, I wouldn't necessarily assume that there's absolutely nothing GKIDS can do. The Korean set appears to have been designed by the company putting it out, not to mention that it sounds like they produced a Korean dub themselves; it's not like everyone is just rubberstamping what Khara hands them and calling it a day. The companies releasing Evangelion outside of Japan seem to have at least some room to negotiate what's included and work out complications themselves. Considering "Fly Me to the Moon" is an American song, it might be easier for GKIDS to work out the licensing. I can't imagine they're not at least trying.

Are you talking about the fan made ones? I heard some fans got a hold of the original films from an old inter positive master?

Anyway you can also get the original movies on DVD that were released along with the Special Edition ones, but they are based off the LD version which is worse but still better than the VHS releases.
