If it's the only audio track, I expect it will be revisionist when downmixed.

Has Paramount ever put a 6 track original soundtrack on any of their 4K or Blu-ray discs?

This is a tricky one like Blade Runner. The Director's Edition sound mix was already pretty revisionist over the original, but it was approved by Robert Wise. With some of the same team supervising the 4K and Atmos remastering, hopefully it'll be respectful of the previous remix (unlike Blade Runner ).

Supposedly, the Dolby TrueHD track on the original Top Gun Blu-ray was from the original 6-track, but I don't know that for sure.

Something else it never would have had in 1979.

I tell you one thing they could add, only The Motion Picture and The Final Frontier have TV Spots, I love watching these, really gives you a snapshot of the time they were made. You can see these on youtube but I wish they would add these for the other films.

That's not really what I mean.
I don't like the way many Atmos tracks play when downmixed (hardly ever even close to the original mix), but I probably need to just get used to the revisionism. Call me crazy, but I do think the originals, even in lossy if it's the only option, should be included.

I just got the two 50th Anniversary sets of the Star Trek films about two years ago and even though the new Blu Rays are remastered and higher picture quality,I just don't like double dipping unless it's something really special and/or damage(I broke a Back To Future disk getting it out of the package from it's first Blu ray release so I double dipped on the new set that came out late last year).

However,I am going to buy the new standalone Wrath Of Khan Blu Ray since it will have the directors cut.Only the theatrical cut is in the set.I passed on getting the directors cut standalone release when it came out due to the error from the original release and didn't want to deal with the hassel of trying to figure out if I was buying the corrected disk or the bad one that I would have ship back to Paramount to get the corrected disk.

So I will get the new standalone release so I can finally have the directors cut.

I will also get The Motion Picture Directors Edition assuming that also gets a Blu Ray release when that comes out.I for some reason passed on it when it came out on DVD.

If you got the big 50th Anniversary box set that includes the animated series The Original Series and the movies then yes the Wrath of Khan disc in that does have the director's cut.

It also includes a very long new documentary exclusive to that release.

Are you talking about the Wrath of Khan disc in the 50th Anniversary box set? Because that same documentary is on the standalone Blu-ray Wrath of Khan director's cut. Or are you talking about a completely different documentary?

The 146-minute documentary "Journey to the Silver Screen" is a bonus disc in the 50th Anniversary set. It's where the Wrath of Khan doc comes from, it's one of the chapters of the longer doc.

I watched the final part of that one last night for TUC, watching Myers facial expressions on what he said to Roddenberry spoke volumes. He really seemed to regret some of what he may have said.

Almost certainly. I love the idea of going back and trying to finish the film the way it might have been if Paramount had allowed more time in 1979 and 1980. I just think there's some avoidable flaws that were made in the execution of that. It's not enough to keep me from buying the disc. I'm glad the original theatrical version will also be available though (unlike the continually revised Star Wars). I still would really love to hear the original ST:TMP Dolby 6-track mix made for the 70mm prints.

I saw that, too. $110? Are you kidding me? LOL.

They aren't getting more than $60 from me for this. I've grown more patient in my old age.

Has there been any word if TMP DC will be released as a stand alone 4k uhd disc or in a different multi movie set? If it's just a stand alone release that would be nice and an easy purchase.

It'll be standalone, but I imagine it's at least 1-1.5 years away as it's an exclusive on Paramount + for a period of time.

If that's truly the case then it's a no-brainer. It would tick me off if they only released it in the eventual mega set with all 10 films and their various iterations. I doubt Paramount would be that nasty...at least I hope not
