I read the great book by Richard Matheson a couple years ago. I should give this a watch!

Sweet. Explains why this one was taking so long to get a US release.

What a strange cover, if someone didn't know what it was, they'd think it's a weird artsy movie, not a fun campy 1950's sci-fi movie where a tiny man fights a giant spider. Criterion is an odd choice for this movie but at this point i'm just excited to finally get it on blu ray here!

New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack!!

I have the Arrow Blu-ray (Region B locked), but a 4K restoration means I'm most definitely in for this one.

This also means I can finally move from this set since every title has been released to Blu-ray now.

My GF caught some of this on Svengoolie a few weeks ago, and was talking about how good it is. I was thinking of breaking out the DVD, but might as well wait for this. It's classic!

I have the arrow release so i won't be double dipping, but this is an amazing movie, one of the greatest of all time, regardless of genre.

I was surprised at how deep, existential and incredibly sad it is too.

I actually almost ended up buying the Arrow release multiple times, but held off on doing that when it was announced Universal had performed a new 4K restoration. It was long rumored to be with Criterion, so it was just a matter of time for it to finally come out.
The extras sound terrific. A new conversation with Joe Dante and a new commentary with Tom Weaver? Sweet, we're definitely in for a treat with the former. Also, when was the last time Criterion recorded a new commentary? What a delightful surprise and the fact that it's from Tom Weaver makes it even greater.
I'm also looking forward to the Craig Barron extra as I have been loving these programs dedicated to special effects.
All in all, this looks like a terrific release. I even like the cover.

I wish I'd known this because I just bought the Arrow along with the Shaw Bros pre-order, so I can genuinely get this before the other. 🤦*♂️

Awesome! It's always great to see more Jack Arnold on blu-ray. The Arrow release is very good, but a new 4K restoration means this is a must-buy.

The documentary "Auteur on the Campus: Jack Arnold at Universal" is really good! I guess this is a new version of it, so that plus the new commentary further add to the appeal.
