No need for stubs. This is selling tickets door to door.

Aren't your accountants still busy shredding and deleting all the info about Black Widow's weekend 2 Premiere Access numbers so ScarJo can't get them.

Exactly. At the end of the day it'll be streaming fodder for Disney+. If you have a streaming service you have to continually "feed the beast" and add new quality content to keep subscribers happy and attract new customers. It'll also make money from digital purchases/rentals, cable on-demand rentals, and physical media sales.

Netflix is spending $17 Billion on original content for 2021 and their movies are pretty much blacklisted from the major theater chains: AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. So they don't see much from box office revenues and people don't judge their movies based on it.

Old's second-weekend drop is comparable to After Earth's and The Last Airbender's, and better than The Happening's.

‘Jungle Cruise’ Rides to $61.8M at Global Box Office, $30M on Disney+

The movie came in ahead of expectations at the domestic box office with $34.2 million despite renewed concerns over COVID-19 and the delta variant.

The movie’s total global start is an okay $91.8 million when including $30 million in revenue from Disney+ Premier Access. Overseas, it earned a tepid $27.6 million.

Variety estimates it would need to make $500m worldwide to break even.

Yeah, Old’s drop really isn’t that unusual and given its $18 million budget, looks to be a modest success.

Snake Eyes, though, is bombing hard.

Yeah, Shyamalan knows how to spend his money where it counts, keeping the budgets low. Which guarantees a profit even if it doesn't light the box office afire. Split only cost $9 million. Glass was only $20 million, despite having Jackson and Willis. And I think he self financed that one to a $246 million gross. You have to give the man credit, he knows what he's doing.

Old is already at nearly 50 million worldwide. It'll probably be quite profitable once home video earnings are factored in.

Films that appear to have made a profit (figuring 2.5x the budget as the amount needed to turn a profit) this summer are:

Production cost / Worldwide Box Office

Old $18M / $48M
The Forever Purge $18M / $63.5M
A Quiet Place Part II $61M / $266M
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It $40/ $194M
F9 $200M / $641M
Peter Rabbit 2 $45M / $151M

Yep, AQP 2 will wind up as the most successful movie of the summer (and possibly the year?) Makes sense as it's also the best of the year so far.

I think it has a lot to do with him partnering with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions. He's had a lot of success with lower budget productions that end up over performing at the box office. Their first film together, 'The Visit', had a $5 million dollar budget and then made nearly $100 million at the box office. Blum also produced Split and Glass. I'm surprised he wasn't involved with Old.

Close. It’s a movie that also takes place in New York but it’s not AQP2.

We've seen a lot of derivative sequels this year. The best movies of the year so far are: Green Knight, Limbo, Black Widow, New Order and The Sparks Brothers.
