Yep. For example, it took 15 years for Heavy Metal to release on VHS because of its soundtrack.

The problem being that on Netflix motifs that used it within the show were replaced with usually just silence which ruins some really emotional scenes.

EDIT: I'll even provide a link for context.

All this talk about "Fly Me To The Moon" makes me think of this abomination and not Eva...

Yeah, FMTTM isn’t just any ending theme. It’s different every episode (or at least most episodes), and it’s a part of the Eva experience. It also has a lot of emotional significance, and the “I love you” at the end connects to the scene when Kaworu tells Shinji that in episode 24. An instrumental version also plays in the background during a very emotional scene with Misato and Kaji. The scene just doesn’t play the same without it.

This is interesting, though it would surprise me if King Records -- one of the main companies behind Eva -- was that sloppy about the music licensing.

It's a shame the studios tend to be so tight-lipped about it; it would at least be nice to know for sure what exactly is going on.

Weren't they able to include FMTTM on Evangelion Finally?

They have it officially uploaded to YouTube:

The owner of the song probably wants more than they're all willing to pay. It's a separate thing altogether in the show itself.

Of course we could have a special situation where the North American release has the track. Not holding my breath but who knows!

Obviously the ultimate boxset would have everything including multiple dubs and cuts, but I’m interested in hearing what element matters to you the most/what you feel is the most important to carry on.
As I've said before in this topic, I think the most important thing is for the original sub (and presumably dub) translation to be included, as it exhibits far more warmth and empathy in a show where that's the entire point, compared to how stilted/reserved/freakishly robotic the newer translation is.

Though I recently realized I can simply import subs to play alongside whatever I'm watching on my Oppo, so I guess if I had to I could always just rip the subs from my DVDs, though it might be a nightmare retiming them. Still, I'd rather everyone have the chance to consume Eva in the way in which I think most of us in the West would agree was the far superior translation.

But Fly Me to the Moon is also very important to me, as I side with those that consider it a vital component to what makes Eva Eva, especially since the tone of each cover often mirrors the content of each episode. Since I now know I can import the proper subs, maybe I'd vote for FMttM.

Who originally recorded "Fly Me to the Moon"? Was it Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Mel Torme, Bing Crosby? Maybe Tony Bennet can be hired and do various versions.

The Italian release looks to be a solid set. Hopefully we can get something comparable here in the US.

I'd absolutely love to have that Italian set, but with engsubs and the proper 2.0 Japanese language track

I've already loaded up my Amazon Japan cart with the Japanese "Standard Edition" box for the scenario in which I don't like the GKIDS set's specifications.

I can live with potentially having the "Director's Cuts" of 21'-24' only, I can live with Death[True]² and EoE (aka "Revival of Evangelion") split over separate discs instead of being on the same disc like in the Japanese release, but having the original renditions of "Fly Me to the Moon" (at least on the original Japanese audio track) as originally aired is a completely non-negotiable point in my mind.

Before you bite on that, I could sell my copy to you. I just need to get my pre-order in for the upcoming release first. It's basically brand new, just opened it so I could create my own English friendly version if you catch my drift.

I'll hit you up in the PMs. Don't want to clutter this thread up with negotiations.

Totally off topic but I can't believe anyone still says "swag". I thought that died in 2010.

Never forget this cringe commercial. It should be a reminder of past sins.
