Definitely try to get some authentic food by locals. Also, and I'm not sure how seasons work there as far as what's in-season, but try to get some fruit. Fruits from locations like Thailand are phenomenal — they're like candy they're so good.

i'll say lychee/longan/rambutan are easiest to love. they all have juicy, translucent or cloudy flesh and are generally sweet with a slight tart taste. don't eat the seed/pit. durian will be the most adventurous as some people cant stand the smell. i have no problems with the smell or the taste. everything i listed is super nutritious and generally very tasty if found ripe.

I had great pleasure taking in durian and rambutan. Phenomenal fruits, in my opinion! I wish we had that stuff here in the United States.

Havent been myself but my dad goes quite alot.

He told me, stick with English speaking bars, go for a ride along the river (in main towns only)
Go see some Kickboxing.. and well you dont need to worry about the ladyboy's :P

Also stay clear if Tattoo shops.. they are really poorly done out there.

Thai Whiskey?? sounds lethal!!! But worth a try

...oh yeah, and keep an eye on your stuff [luggage]. Way to many cases of tourists landing in prison for "smuggling drugs" unknowingly.

Will be careful with our luggage.. I dont want to end up on the next series of 'Banged Up Abroad!'

I can also recommend the monkey-on-a-stick from the local vendors. Get past the monkey thing and it's extremely delicious.

It's odd to see baby elephants walking around on the streets and monkey's climbing around in the restaurants.

And don't worry about picking up a ladyboy. If in doubt, they'll certainly prove it to you, even if just walking by.

And beware of 10 year olds selling bricks of Thai Stick from their fanny packs.

Enjoy the food and eat a lot of it. It's easily some of the best food on the planet!
Monkey on a stick?!?! They eat monkey?? ah man...
