It's unbelievable how some labels keep insisting on lossy audio tracks.
And Showbox is definitely the worse offender. Their releases are the pure definition of mediocre: single layer 25GB discs with lossy audio tracks. It's especially upsetting when most of the films they release have great releases in Hong Kong and the US (with dual layer discs and lossless audio tracks, in some of the cases 7.1). Unfortunately some of those releases are region A locked, and my player is region B, so I'm missing out on some films because I'm not buying any more of Showbox releases when I know it's an inferior product and elsewhere there's a much better release.

I own quite a few of their releases, but I always thought the lossy situation was only for their first releases, while they were getting the hang of the BD format. A couple of years later, it's still the same thing.

Hopefully that will be the case.
Either way I'll get this disc. I was unaware of this film until you posted the trailer, but I enjoyed seeing JeeJa Yanin on Chocolate, so I want to check out her new film.

Speaking of Showbox: AnimeOnBlu, do you have any info about their upcoming BD release of Ichi the Killer? I would love to have this film uncut on BD, but unfortunately I don't think the BBFC will let it go without cuts. I've been checking the BBFC website hoping to see info on a resubmission, but none so far appeared.

To be honest, I am not sure. After reading why the DVD was cut, it sounds like something that could remain cut unfortunately. The other option would be the US version if it is Region Free as I cannot see that one being cut.

Good afternoon,

I don't believe there are any preliminary plans for a U.S. release yet.

convert the price here:

(remember that the actual price would be lower after VAT is removed)

This was all style, no substance. I have to say I've never seen breakdancing drunken Muay Thai before this. I've also never seen martial arts fighters on stilts. The background goes from deserted ghost town to ruins by the beach with no explanation. The fights are pretty. The PQ is very nice and audio is loud and lossless.

Video: 1080p24 AVC encoded 1.78:1
Audio: Thai dts HD MA 5.1
Subtitles: English
Extras: Trailers and featurette

Get it for the fights, but not for anything else.

I will first check out the film before purchase. But if I like the film enough I will surely buy it on BD! Also I'm happy to hear that the PQ is good!

Ok I watched this film yesterday. I had low expectations based on the reviews and because I had never before seen the actresses films. Jija Yanin is a great actor and I love her personality! Eventually I liked the film quite much. Yeah maby the film should have been some 20 minutes shorter, they could have cut some of the fighting scenes. Even if the fighting scenes were good, I think quite many of them were too repetative.

I was surprised this film had a quite good story plot in the end IMO. Speaking of the ending - this might be a film for not so much repeat value. But based on both the films quality (and Jija) and the BD's PQ I will buy this BD when the price falls down just a bit.

Anyone know how does this compares to the US bluray? The prices are about the same but the UK disc seemed to have a better review (a whole point difference in the PQ) though from the write ups it seems more like the reviewer of the US disc just didn't like the style of the film.
