I think that the PS3 decodes the HD audio formats internally and then sends out the signal as linear PCM. So, while the Onkyo 606 does have the capability to decode a couple of the HD audio formats, you won't need it for the PS3.

I agree with most others that the 606 is a good choice. I just picked one up on ebay for ~$300.
