Panasonic has made clear its stance in the high-definition war. "Blu-Ray will succeed to become the predominant high-definition format, be certain," Joachim Reinhart, chief operating officer and president of Panasonic Europe, told journalists at a press conference at IFA 2007 in Berlin this afternoon.

Yes, but to say something so assuredly is showing how confident they are in the format and gives people supporting Blu-ray some assurance that it will not fall-out with some of the latest developments with HD-DVD (i.e. Paramount).

Greedle, while I don't disagree, this harkens back to the "victory" declaration made by the BDA earlier in the year, which has been a rallying cry for HD-DVD fans.
And again, a declaration without a clear strategy just looks foolish at this point, not confident. IMHO. |

I see your point David, but on the other hand, a statement like this coming from Panasonic, is a very encouraging message showing they are fully committed to the technology and do have formidable strategy behind bold statements.

I think this is encouraging. I know that the format war is over, but Panasonic saying this just re-confirms their belief in Blu-ray.

all of you make good solid points, but remember, this is basically a trade show. at shows like this you must motivate the troops. a general is not going to stand before his troops and kick at the dirt and say " boys i sure hope we win the battle today" he's gonna say "get the F**K out there and kick their a$$).

Well I am in agreement with them that Blu-ray will win in the end, but I don't think it will be that easy. Since Paramount so easily chose HD-DVD over Blu-ray, it is possible other unexpected things may happen. Even now, with the latest reports supporting Blu-ray, I wonder that the HD-DVD camp is doing.
I believe that they are not truly as committed to the HD-DVD format as the BDA is to Blu-ray. If HD-DVD fails, Paramount and Universal will start releasing Blu-ray, Toshiba will start making BD players, Microsoft will have to take it like a man (or monster in their case) and accept (once again) that they don't rule the world. If Blu-ray fails, many companies will be in far more serious trouble, such as Sony and Panasonic, that have a lot riding on this technology. It is because they are so dedicated that I am sure they will win over the inferior HD-DVD. I do wish they'd tell us their strategy to fight the giant M$ and their HD-DUD toy, but at least they show us their confidence in the technology (while the HD-DVD supporters are often heard saying how their players will still be useful as DVD players if HD-DVD dies... I wonder). |

I think his comment was fine. For Blu-ray supporters, it's nice to see a level of confidence and conviction still circling the executive rings of major electronics manufacturers. A lot of people are fearing a perpetuation of combo format players following Paramount's recent announcement, so I see the comment as being rather timely. Blu still has a lock on it, according to Panasonic, and that's not fun for HD DVD supporters to continue reading - many of whom probably own Panasonic TVs... In short, these comments are influential - certainly more so than foolish. (respectfully, IMHO ![]() Last edited by atdm71; 08-30-2007 at 08:19 PM. |

HD-DVD is on it's way out in Europe and dead in Japan/Australia. HD-DVD isn't even entering some smaller markets. |

Exactly. Us people in North America tend to forget about the rest of the world, which is OVERWHELMINGLY in support of Blu-ray.
