The only studio not selling movies on Blu-ray is Universal. Not much needs to happen..

I think at some point late this year we will see that Blu-ray sales are gaining serious momentum and have dwarfed HD DVD sales. That is really the death knell for HD DVD. When sales are growing substantially for one format at a rate the decimates the competition.
Yes, HD DVD could continue to produce players and even movies for a few years beyond that and the most ardent HD DVD supporters will continue to scream about how the war isn't over. But, like Beta, it will be a moot point. Blu-ray will own the market and HD DVD won't be playing catch up anymore, but will simply be trying to recoup some of its losses. I can hardly wait until I see the first Blu-ray branded Toshiba player! ![]() |

I predict that BD will continue to pour into people's homes via the PS3 along with movies and BD games that they can play on it. After the millions of units have been sold, more stand alone players wil have been released by more 3rd party companies and because flood of BD by PS3, manufacturing costs will drop and these stand alones will be available for $400 or less. HD DVD lacks the "force it on 'em" strategy that Sony has. Sony knew that this war would be tough, and the only way to give them the advantage would be to "force" (the term HD DVD fanboys like) the product onto consumers instead of confusing them by giving them a choice and causing a stalemate like the DVD-A vs. SACD battle.

Well, if it's the best it'll win.
None of the other "Battles" between formats has shocked me cos the losing ones weren't as good as the winners. IF (and i don't know first hand for sure) Blu-Ray is better than HD-DVD, then it'll win cos people will demand it. Also, SA-CD is IMO from what people have said as well as my own esearch, better than DVD-A. |
