My hope is the “standard version” will be like Shout’s release of Freaks and Geeks.

Whereas F&G had a thing for the 4x3 transfers and a thing for the 16x9 ones and an extras disc shoved in a nice box, maybe NGE might could something similar for the Netflix and ADV dubs, that way everyone’s happy

The Japanese version with Fly Me To The Moon is Hideaki Anno's true, original vision of the series. Stick with the one you have, this "Ultimate" new English language release is basically a peice of crap without that song.

That song helped define the series, as any true Eva fan would know.

This new release is an incomplete cash-grab, an insult to Evangelion as a whole.

I would have bought the Japanese set years ago if it was English friendly.

There's literally nothing GKids or any other distributor can do regarding Fly Me to the Moon. The fans made it loud and clear they wanted it, but it didn't happen because;

A: It was impossible to include due to licensing restrictions

B: It was too damn expensive to include due it being a global release

The writing was on the wall anyway. If Netflix doesn't have the money for Fly Me to the Moon on their streaming service, then GKids and All The Anime sure as hell ain't gonna have the capital to include it...

It's really no that big of a deal and as someone who's watched the series since the late 90s, it's omission doesn't impact the show and how it is digested in the least. Drama, Drama, Drama

Really wasn't expecting them to sell 5,000 copies at that price this fast. Maybe pre-orders are just closed for the time being.

Really wish they had just revealed what other editions will be offered at the same time.

Apparently, licensing Fly Me to the Moon costs as much as buying a house. For each episode.

Anyways, any way I could pre-order from the GKIDS Store and have it ship to the Philippines?
I don't know anyone living in America, though.

For anyone curious about the FMTTM situation, there's an interview with Claire Littley that gives a bit of insight into the legal issues that possibly could have caused it's removal from international markets. Obviously just speculation, but would make sense.

Guess I'm not a true Eva fan then. A Cruel Angel's Thesis helped define the series for me

This is so ridiculous that it borders on satire and I legitimately can't tell if it's an actual temper tantrum, or if you're simply poking fun at everyone for obsessing over a song that plays over the ending credits.

I'm sort of impressed either way.

What, exactly, is so deflating? No one sane expected Fry Me to The Moon would be there. The price point can’t come as a surprise.

Wouldn't surprise me. Megumi Hayashibara still gets royalties whenever Fly Me to the Moon gets selected at Karaoke bars/clubs in Japan.

While that Limited Edition looked snazzy, it was too rich for my blood. Maybe would have gotten it if it also came with the Rebuild Movies for that super complete experience.

Don't regret missing out on pre-orders, and will definitely pick up the standard release.

It's also worth noting that the "Classic" ADV dub has it's own set of discs which is a very, very peculiar thing. (Personally, I've never seen something like this happen before)
GKIDS and Anime Limited are both teasing multiple other editions, including in reply to posts asking if those discs will be in other sets. I have a feeling there will be a cheaper collector’s edition with the discs (possibly a steelbook set?) in the $100 range, but a much cheaper mass market edition without them in the $60 range. It IS very strange that the original dub and especially the original subtitle track have their own discs when they could have both easily been included on the same discs as alternate audio/subtitle tracks.

I doubt the classic dub is exclusive to just the ultimate edition. If you read the whole list they actually go out of their way to say the exclusive items in the UE (the paperweight and NERV badge). I mentioned earlier there’s probably gonna be another 2-3 sets: one that includes some swag with the official and classic dubs, a limited edition with just the Blu-rays (including bonus classic dub) and a standard barebones edition without the bonus dub.

It’s most likely a pipe dream but a VERY remote possible explanation for the separately dedicated discs for the classic dub is that GKids was somehow able to “port over” the revival cut without editing anything…meaning FMtTM could still be in the classic dub…probably not though. The only reason I’m thinking this is because why didn’t they just include the ADV dub as a separate track on the same disks?

For the sake of everyone getting access to the original ADV dub that want it - I hope you're right. Would be a kick in the teeth if the ADV dub is exclusive to the Ultimate Edition.

But then again - that might be part of the reason why it costs $275.
