This is Amir, click the link below:

He is not JUST a Microsoft employee, he is a huge proponent of the HD DVD camp's fight against Blu-ray.

Isn't it ironic, apparently the A-man used to work for Sony a long while ago ...

Maybe we should consult the Godfather on him.

Basically, when Paramount was insisting that the poor Godfather negatives didn't need restoration, Spielberg stepped in and told them they had to do it. So now, they are finishing up the restoration process.

When am I posting this?

1) Yet another riff between Spielberg and Paramount

2) If Spielberg forced them to restore the master, couldn't he also force a Blu-ray version?
Sure absolutely, why not.

I really hope this never sees the light of day on HD-DVD.

I am starting to like Spielberg a lot more lately!

Since Coppola and Spielberg are real close, I would expect Coppola to demand (if he hasn't already) the same type of control over distribution of his movies as Spielberg. For myself, above Godfather there is Apocalypse Now! that he made, and if he chose BD first w/ Bram Stoker's Dracula, I suspect he's of the same mind as Spielberg.

I guess if HD DVD wants to get Spielberg films, they're going to have to do like Mr. Burns and get his cheap non-union Mexican equivalent, Spielbergo.

No surprise that Speilberg would do this....
He, Lucas, Coppola, and a few other film makers of that generation have been close friends for decades.
Speilberg is a lover of film, and it makes perfect sense he would use his influence at Paramount.

JTK, gvortex7, thanks. I'll read up on the guy. Sounds like a bit of shit disturber judging by the rage he routinely illicits on our boards. I don't like the design of the some of these other sites mentioned -- really hard on the eyes, never mind some of the nonsense that gets posted.

Now here's a scenario, I saw that Steven speilberg was the excutive producer for Transformers and the 2009 release of Transformers 2, I wonder if there's any way he could make Paramount produce it on Blu.......
Its just a thought.

well after further reading here, I see he produced Flags of our Fathers as well, and we lost that with the Paramount decision. Wishful thinking I suppose

ONly Spielberg directed, not produced

They also exempted certain top-performing films, Godfather could be one of them

>just registered at AVS -- withdrawal my critique of this site. Used to look like a dogs breakfast. Now it looks like Blue-ray.com; so much easier on the eyes. Interesting.<

...back to topic. Paramount is simply on crack to not want to restore the negatives for The Godfather. Like I can't believe this, man.

But then again, crack? *****s? Correlation?

Very upset. Which is why if Coppola and Spielberg wanted the film on Blu-ray, it could happen.
no, way , no matter how great Spielberg and Coppola are they cant change the fact that paramount is HD dvd only for right now maybe in 2 years or when ever the contract is up but not untill then

I agree with you. People keep saying stuff like "well Spielberg got his films exempt from the exclusivity deal so maybe others will too." That's all well and good, but Spielbergs movies were exempt from the deal in the original exclusivity agreement, not after it was all said and done. I don't think they'd backstep and try to exclude other properties as well...

Spielberg already has. All his films (directed) Paramount owns will be on both formats if released at all. He did that, Paramount didn't just do that for the hell of it.

I am sure that you won't see any of these gentlemen film on any HD media unless the studios get there consent.I knew it took a long time for the Godfather to hit dvd and the same with ET and Indiana Jones.

From what I can gather there guys like Blu-ray,case and point Dracula with the commentery from Copolla and the same with Close Encounters.

Default well

what the companies will learn from blu -is that consumers want the best quality and good prices but we would pay more knowing that it is the best picture and sound ,not a bunch of mindless nimrods who want cheap players cheap movies ,shotty encodes and crappy sound .I choose better ,I choose blu-ray for the advantages it gives me (the consumer)
