KL Insider, did Criterion pass on the 4K rights to Some Like it Hot or were you just able to quickly make a deal with MGM before the other labels?

Coming November 16th!
https://www.kinolorber.com/product/the-accused-blu-ray The Accused (1949) • NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian Eddy Von Mueller • Theatrical Trailer • Optional English Subtitles B&W 101 Minutes 1.37:1 Not Rated Loretta Young (The Stranger, The Farmer’s Daughter) and Robert Cummings (The Bride Wore Boots, Dial M for Murder) star in the film noir classic The Accused, a story about one woman’s successful self-defense during a struggle which leads to the death of her attacker. Psychology professor Wilma Tuttle (Young) allows a male student of hers to drive her home. While en route, he attempts to rape her but is killed when his teacher fights back. After fleeing the scene, Wilma is overcome with feelings of guilt while following the murder investigation by Homicide Lt. Dorgan (Wendell Corey, I Walk Alone, Rear Window) and comforting her love interest Warren Ford (Cummings), who also happens to be her attacker’s guardian. Directed by William Dieterle (I’ll Be Seeing You, Portrait of Jennie) and shot by Milton R. Krasner (All About Eve, Love with the Proper Stranger), this brilliantly acted drama dives into the psyche of a woman torn apart by emotional violence. 738329256586.jpg |

I know this may be asking for a pot of gold or something like that, but can't help wondering if there will ever be a U.S. blu-ray release of a few things.
1 - Mackenna's Gold (1969) with Gregory Peck, Omar Sharif. Years ago, a rumor that Criterion Collection may release it... years later, we're still waiting, and waiting long enough that I can't buy anything from them anymore. All that's been released on this movie is a U.S. DVD long ago or imported blu-ray garbage with forced english captioning. 2 - Goliath Awaits (1981) with Christopher Lee, Mark Harmon. A really decent Operation Prime Time two part program (approximately 100 min x 2) that was once released on VHS but it was extremely edited and total garbage. Both parts aren't even broadcasted on any cable channel (like Showtime used to) or even On Demand on Showtime. It's half the reason we dumped them. 3 - Boston Legal (2004-2008) with William Shatner, James Spader. Do I really have to write anymore? Seriously, why would we have to beg a company to release this on blu-ray? 4 - All The Rivers Run (1983) with Sigrid Thornton, John Waters. I believe it was those who could afford HBO back then (and yes, they were high priced then, too) who saw this program from Australia and most watched all 8 episodes of the mini-series. HBO was kind enough to broadcast it a few more times through the years, but it's disappeared. The DVD released some years ago was in PAL format and few sellers explained that as they sold it, so many in the U.S. were stuck. In 1988, Sigrid Thornton became better known in the U.S. by the program Paradise starring Lee Horsley, broadcasted on CBS, and amazingly, some then discovered All The Rivers Run years after it's initial broadcast. The 1990 production of Run II was crap and no one enjoyed it, possibly because Sigrid Thornton was replaced and it just didn't stick like the original. Note: I know someone will add that Sigrid Thornton was in the 1982 movie The Man From Snowy River, but in the midwest, many never knew that movie existed until years later. Blame it on lack of ads, lack of theaters that had it, lack of interest, etc. Just sayin'. Which brings me to the final request just mentioned: 5 - Paradise (1988-1990) with Lee Horsley, Sigrid Thornton. It has a Season One release by Warner Archive Collection in 2017 on DVD, and that's where they left it. Imagine that! Thank you for your time, hoping KL people respond or find some interest in this. Mackenna's Gold and Goliath Awaits are with Sony. To my knowledge Sony has never licensed to KLSC. Boston Legal is with Disney, who is not licensing to anyone. As you said yourself, Paradise is with Warner's. To my knowledge Warner's has never licensed to KLSC. |

Please let this be the restored version; the lousy DVD was approximately 15 minutes short, smeared and grainy, and badly edited to boot. The cult status of films like this and its contemporaries like The Best House in London and The Devils cry out for uncut restorations. Clearly not for all tastes, but not without merit as a product of the times.

I know you're addressing your question to the Insider, But in the meantime I thought I'd mention that either SanCarolina or BarnDoor have indicated that the two 40's films she made with Alan Ladd ("And Now Tomorrow" and "China") are both strong Kino possibilities. So there's a good chance we'll be seeing more from lovely Loretta in the not too distant future.
