You should come show everyone what imagination consists of, then. Everyone seems to have 1000 better ideas, until you ask them to actually do something about it. Complaining without imagination, though, is a dime a dozen.

Dune needed to be a box office hit to justify the sequels and series. It really sounds like this Dune, much like 2049, is a contemplative, slow, action-less, tone poem, and I just don’t see a general audience getting behind it in any significant way.

Dune was always going to be a niche movie for hard core sci-fi fans (same with the upcoming Foundation series on Apple TV+)...it was never going to hit Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones levels...be happy that we actually got a Dune movie

So Dune 2021 will be similar to e.g. Blade Runner, Alien, 2001, and Moon? If so it sounds right up my alley.

They spent $165M on it. Are they planning for a single follow-up or a trilogy?

You are totally misunderstand what I am saying. I’m happy we are getting Dune, excited to see it and I’m sure I’ll love it.

We are not getting the second part of the movie though. It needed to be a breakout success, and it won’t be popular.

Bold statement before the movie has even started showing in the theaters.

we are getting the 2nd movie...I highly doubt Villeneuve would have agreed to direct unless he had some sort of assurance that both movies would get made (regardless of box office numbers)...Villeneuve is a huge fan of the book and no way would he put out only half the story

No it’s true, people love slow thoughtful genre movies.

2049
Annihilation
Children of Men
Ad Astra
Lynch’s Dune
The Fountain

Honestly WB didn’t do it any favors by cannibalizeing it’s box office by dumping it on Max.

As the director told Total Film magazine, “There’s no such thing as ‘Dune 1’ and ‘Dune 2’...It’s ‘Dune: Part One’ and ‘Dune: Part Two'”...Villeneuve only agreed to direct an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel for Warner Bros. and Legendary if they let him split the book into two parts...the director is now writing “Dune Part 2” and said it would take a “Part 1” box office disaster for the next film not to get made...

Did you even read it? It says it’s ready to go IF greenlit. It’s not a for sure thing, in fact it’s the opposite. I’m not sure why you think you are an armchair movie exec thinking there is some under the table deal that happened that you have zero evidence for except you saying “I’m sure”…

I never read the novel but enjoyed the Lynch adaptation and loved Blade Runner 2049. I’m very excited for this. At the absolute very least this movie will be visually appealing with an incredible soundtrack.

But I’m REALLY hoping it gets a second part. I was nervous when IT Chapter One came out for this reason, but at least that first half told a ”complete” story. I hear Dune needs its other half to feel like a full story.

So you are the one deciding if Dune Part 2 gets a green or red light? Since you are attacking others for being arm chair exec, I assume you are the real exec. And reading your comments you seem to already have decided for red, so Villeneuve should be very worried.

lmao this is just too dumb. I’m not sure how sharing an article with actual facts in it is “attacking” because I’m not buying into a total fantasy of under the table deals and secret handshakes.

I’m just questioning how you on your own can decide that Dune Part 2 is doomed before Dune Part 1 has even started showing in the theaters. Does not seem serious. If anything is dumb, that is.

It's a sci-fi spectacle with beautiful landscapes, amazing architecture, spaceships and f*cking sandworms.

It's really not that hard to imagine better poster than that crap, even based on the usual Struzan-esque composition.

There will be other posters, that’s just the one that shows off all of the star power as the focus and can easily be configured into any necessary layout.

I like the colors though, it’s giving Tiffany & Co.

So draw one up and show us. Everyone thinks they can do better, but few if any ever do. So put that money where your mouth is and wow us with all your originality. Would be happy to critique it and give you ample notes on how it could be better.
