Yes! This fooking movie is so great! Perfect casting. Tight script. Great execution of the action. Gavin O'Connor is one of the best directors out there. The modern day Don Siegel. Warrior and The Way Back are also terrific.

Siegel by way of being more in tap with their emotions and psyche. I dig most of his work. Would have loved to see him do his Suicide Squad movie. Kind of bummed it didn't happen and how it was taken from him.

I love Truffaut. I find Godard uneven but wonderful at times. The little I've seen of Varda has been very good. Melville is awesome.
But Demy...I just love the worlds he creates. The lyrical nature of his edit. The closed nature of his moments. The transitory feeling of his relationships. They're like fairy tales in the French New Wave. Cocteau but a bit more relatable. |
