I don't find any movie actually scary. Some are just entertaining while others are stupid. Personal taste.

Unfortunately this is the same for me, now that I'm older. I miss being scared.

Some funny not very well thought out comments here, especially the guy who says I should throw my lis out the window because I liked Psycho II and Haloween 2 better than the originals, hey, that's my taste I'm sorry, I dont find 60's movies scary, and saw these when I was young...

To the other guy who said I havent discovered according to him, horror outside North America and laughs if they are in order, yes my selections are in order, yes Ive seen all the movies you mention and none will go on my list, The Gate lol?

Look at my other lists and you'll see I've made one called My Favorite Japanese/Asian Horror Movies. No thx for your critisisms, but thanks for your advice on old horror movies, the only really old horror movie that actually scared me a bit was the one with Vincent Price in House on Haunted Hill, with that Floating thing, was well done.

Im surprised that Saw hasn't been mentioned yet. The sequels weren't that great, but the 1st one was really well done.

Thanks

I'm just not into overly gross movies like Saw and Hostel, you might wonder than what Texas Chainsaw Massacres (Both versions) are doing there, I guess that one scared the crap out of me and everyone else... Getting hung alive on a meat hook is no joke lol.

Hey man, The Gate is a staple of my childhood during the late 80s. Never forget your roots. Regardless it is better than 99% of contemporary horror, and much better than a handful of the movies on your list: Return to House on Haunted Hill, Quarantine, Silent Hill, Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, The Ring 2. With tastes like that, plus posting your all-time favorite horror movie list on a message board so you can absorb other peoples opinions because you cannot properly assess movies yourself, you're not exactly warranted to judge these replies.

Like other people pointed out Halloween 2 and Psycho 2, but not the originals? And Jaws 2?... Wes Craven's only representation in your top 40 horror list is The Serpent And The Rainbow? Not necessarily a bad film, but definitely a mediocre one.

Things like The Ring and Session 9 were good horror flicks but only in perspective of this decade. In a grand view of the genre they don't hold a candle.

Not to rip on your tastes. But isn't that why you started this thread? For input?

I did add Halloween and removed Jaws 2, I think your wrong about The Texas Chainsaw Remake not being scary, I find it 100 times scarier than the original, ok not 100 maybe 10 times. That's one creepy film that gets under your skin.

As for Quarentine, I was actually looking for REC, the orignal from Spain, but Amazon doesnt have it yet. The last 10 minutes of both these movies are pretty original and scary.

The Ring will always remain a classic, even 50 years from now. A lot of people find it scary, a lot of turds still dont want to admit it though. The Ring/Ringu both are creepy to me.

And your right, Ill suck in the criticsm, since that's the reason I started this, but I was looking mostly for new movies to add/suggestions, or at least if your going to criticise, at least tell me which ones you agree that should be on my list, you cant tell me none, because that would be funny.

The Gate, lol, It's a part of my youth too, the sequels killed it off though, just like Child's play. I respect your choice, everyone has their tastes, heck ill respect anyone who thinks the descent is scary, especially if your claustrophobic.

I will take a closer look at some of the ones you named, I seem to remember a lot of them, especially the 80's ones.

Would you happen to remember The Beach! Was a cool early 80's flick, and does anyone remember which movie this part was from, I remember watching it like in 1979-1982 and being totally freaked out, it was 2 people inside a cabin in the woods, with some type of lagoon creature or demon, some hand or scratching came from under the floor than the roof I think, I never figured out what movie that was.....

Dog Soldiers was a pretty cool werewolf movie. As for those messed up ones like zombi II, I actually had it on my list, than decided to not add anything too gory, I'm not that into gore, that's why I avoid the B-Movies, one of those can mess up your week, lol.

Trying to stick with what works without too many body parts flying out of my tv and genitals hanging upside down on every corner.

I have "THE BEACH" on dvd, it's a nice one, nothing really scary just a nice odd little flick. a bit like "ALIGATOR"

Also I think the film you might be looking for may be "SNOWBEAST" well it atleast has two people in a cabin with a yeti trying to get in, though it could be quite a lot of films, have you checked out all the "Sasquatch/big foot flicks? just a thought.

My recomendations for you would be.

BAD MOON.

A made for TV werewolf flick, nice plot, really good acting and has whats widly accepted as being one of the best werewolf costumes ever made, (You start to realise this when you get to see it up close) and it's considered a classic among "Werwolf comunities".

ABOMNIMABLE.

Really like this flick, there are a ton of new Yeti flicks around after watching them all, this one turned out to be the best.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU64PTCn7v4

GALAXY OF TERROR. Thats pretty dope!

BIG BAD WOLF.

This film really sucks balls hard, but I don't know why me and my GF just have to watch it every so often, the Werewolf is pretty cool, odly he actually talks and even rapes one of the annoying teeny chicks, I think thats what's so cool about it, all the kids are really f'cking annoying and one by one they all get their asses laced by this,. . . . I'm actually laughing whilst I'm writing this, this talking wherewolf, who is pretty bad ass in a kind of odd way, I was totally on the side of the wherewolf throughout the whole flick lol, but some moment's will really make you cringe, the acting in parts is really bad lol.

A couple of good Zombie flicks. . .

RE-ANIMATOR.

NIGHT OF THE COMMET.

I can't think of many others.

maybe. . .

30 DAYS OF NIGHT?

If you like old?? A COLD NIGHTS DEATH is a good one, more psycological drama than a horror though but probably one of the rarest movies ever made, "A COLD NIGHTS DEATH" only exists as dvd-r renders from home recorded VHS tapes recorded from broadcasts of the movie sometime back in the 80's. It was never released as DVD or Video, it exists solely through these VHS recordings and consiquent DVD-R's. It is an excelent film and should never have missed a Video or dvd release, though one for the die hard collector maybe, it was also a major inspiration to John Carpinter whilst making "THE THING".

That's my lot, hope you like them.

ni-cad.

MY GOD! I don't know if I can take any more of your dismissing of great horror films! At least you liked Day. As for sequels, don't get anything past part 2 on Texas and Return. However, Return of the Living Dead Part 2 is pretty campy. Skip the Howling sequels altogether.

There actually is a horror movie starring Ron Jememy. It called the One-Eyed-Monster. It's a movie about an alien possessing Ron Jeremy's penis and attacking people. And no, I'm not kidding.

No. It's on Easywolf. He didn't like Night of the Creeps and Dawn of the Dead (the original). I love those movies. I've been aching for a disc release of Creeps for ages!

Ah, ok. Because I got the impression that you and I had similar taste in horror movies.

Night of the Creeps is coming to Blu-ray later this year. Been waiting for a good release of this for years, so this will be a real treat. Both the theatrical and the director's cut will be included.

Cool, thx for the advice on the sequels. Which horrors am I dismissing? Night and Dawn?

Honestly, I still dont think we've seen the PERFECT Zombie movie. Someone smart and knows zombies should make one.

Some facts/suggestion for a great zombie movie, IMHO.

- Zombies should not run.

- No dumb acting or dumb scripts, it kills the movie, think both Night of the Living Dead movies here, where both times the white and black dudes cant get along in a house surrounded by undead. And girl actors thinking if they should attack one second, the next acting like wonder women.
Or just about the worst plan ever, bringing a truck in front of a house to escape and than not knowing how to get in lol.

- Return of the Living dead would have been the perfect zombie flick if it had just a bit less comedy moments and no running zombies.

- Return of the Living dead had the best zombies, that half woman is still pretty creepy to look at and listen to. Not to mention the Brains dude under the stairs.

- Day of the Dead had the best killing scenes, so did Dawn too.

Peter Jackson, Lucio Fulci, Michele Soavi and George A. Romero has already made perfect zombie-movies.

-Jackson with Braindead (Dead Alive)
-Soavi with Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetary Man)
-Fulci with Zombie Fleasheaters (Zombie 2)
-Romero with Night of the Living Dead
