The October Flash Sale hasn't happened yet. Most think it will be this Tuesday.

If you're talking about the Barnes and Noble sale. Yes, nothing's changed. I'll probably only be buying 3 selections, Citizen Kane, Once Upon a Time in China, and Menace To Society as I hope to be pretty much caught up with what I want.

If you're talking about the Criterion.com sale, I'd advise you to get ready for it either today or Tuesday. I had already placed items in my cart and saw that they removed them tonight. Just placed them back in my cart. My selections are Mona Lisa, the Damned, High Sierra/Colorado Territory, The Incredible Shrinking Man and the Mario Van Peebles set.

Since I picked up most of the titles on my Criterion list in July I'm probably only getting about three titles during the flash sale.

The titles on my list.

High Sierra
Woman in the Dunes
In the Mood for Love

I have so many I need to catch up on, but I think I’m going to pick up the following:

Throw Down
The Incredible Shrinking Man
Onibaba
High Sierra
Mona Lisa
The Furies

Trying to decide between Ashes & Diamonds or Secrets & Lies. I’ve seen the Wayda years ago and liked it, but passed up the Leigh in the July sale.

Also, would love to grab the Melvin Van Peebles set, but that will likely wait.

The last several 'heads up' e-mails have come between 6-8 PM EST, so we should know within the hour whether or not the flash sale is actually going to be tomorrow.

I'll get the Before Trilogy and the Dekalog with one card. This will get me over the threshold for the $50 gift card.

With another card and the gift card, I will then get The Furies, The Phantom Carriage, Ashes and Diamonds, Letter Never Sent, A Night to Remember, and the Three Fantastic Journeys by Karel Zeman.

I'm getting to the point where I'm worried about shelf space. Won't stop me, though.

It's a good set, just with odd dimensions. It would fit better with a bunch of vinyl records than on a movie shelf. Really wish it had Ginger and Fred, though.

It will fit next to my Bergman set in a magazine holder on my bookshelf. I hope they or someone releases Ginger and Fred soon!

I wouldn't say "way too early". A few of their sales have started on the first or second of the month, so if it is the 29th, that's merely 3 days earlier than some previous sales. The sales also historically start in Fridays, and since the 1st is on a Monday, we'd have to wait till the 5th at the earliest, so the 29th makes more sense.

I'm sure hariseldon can chime in with some specific data for you

11/1/2019 - 12/1/2019
11/6/2020 - 11/30/2020

Couple days earlier that usual, but not a drastic leap to get the first weekend started and end up with a full month sale assuming it end the Sunday after BF or Cybermonday like normal.

For many years they started on Tuesday then moved to Nov 1, recently they;ve been trying to capture that extra weekend at the front of the sale. A couple years they actually started the sale online a day earlier than in store intentionally or not.

The June Sales started 6/28/2019 and 6/29/2018 so not unheard of recently to start late in the preceding month.

The year is started Oct 30 was kind of a red letter infamous year and was the year Hurricane Sandy took out HQ in NYC and a lot of the computer system so the sale got off to a REALLY bad start for in store sales in the NE. It was somewhat surreal reading posts from the NE residents who were almost as devastated having to miss the 1st 7-10 days of the sale as they were to be in peril from a Hurricane and Flooding. To compensate for the uproar, BN extended the sale past BF for the first time and apparently it was a huge success since they done that every year since then

Just as long as we get the sale!

I’ve had some pretty sizable orders, and I didn’t get notification of the sale, either. I got an e-mail from them on the 15th announcing their January titles, so I’m on their mailing list.

So, who knows. /shrug

For anybody just now checking the board, the Criterion 50% off Flash Sale is confirmed for today. If they hold true to past sales, everything on the site will be 50% off of MSRP for 24 hours, starting at noon ET.

Just added to my cart in anticipation:

World of Wong Kar Wai
Beasts of No Nation
Election
Age of Innocence
Memories of Murder
Stalker
Bringing Up Baby

The last 4 are all blind buys, as are like all but 2 of the Wong films lol. I trust Scorcese and Bong though, and Bringing Up Baby is a request from my girlfriend who loves it. Stalker I'm unsure of since I just thought Solaris was okay, but the premise sounds really neat so I kinda wanna see it. And with all that, it SHOULD get me to the $50 gift card threshold

With the B&N sale including preorders, I'm gonna place an order for the Uncut Gems 4k
